There's an interesting question going around about Dexter...

Sep 24, 2013, 4:30 PM

was it the worst series finale ever?

Tony Soprano says

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

thats funny but i actually like the Soprano finale

Sep 24, 2013, 4:33 PM

Dexter wasnt the worst but not good either.

I loved the Sopranos finale

Sep 24, 2013, 4:40 PM

I also liked the line in the Journey song "Workin' hard to get my fill" as Phil was getting killed.

Same here, and in my scenario I still............

Sep 24, 2013, 4:43 PM

think Tony took a bullet at the end. Either way it left us all wondering.

.

I think that is why people didn't like it. No resolution

Sep 24, 2013, 4:46 PM

at all. I don't know if they planned to make a movie or what, but sadly that ship has sailed.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I liked the no "real resolution"

Sep 24, 2013, 4:48 PM

Makes you kind of think about it. Unlike some of the people that watched The Sopranos just for the hits and killings - they wanted to see Tony get killed. That's not the way David Chase does things.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg2006_ncaa_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

its all personal preference

Sep 24, 2013, 4:49 PM [ in reply to I think that is why people didn't like it. No resolution ]

when you really think about it, there is no good way to leave it. You kill them, people say that sucks. You keep them alive, people say they should've died.

I always said for Dexter from the beginning, the finale will be impossible to write. I'm not too critical of it just cause there was no right answer. No matter what people would've bitched.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg2005_majors_champ.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-xtiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, Dramas are difficult.

Sep 24, 2013, 4:51 PM

M*A*S*H cheated. They already had the frame work of the end of the war to work with. A natural ending if you will.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The best part was Phil's head

Sep 24, 2013, 5:03 PM [ in reply to I loved the Sopranos finale ]

aside from that, nothing

That one hurt the most for me. So much build up and hype...

Sep 24, 2013, 4:39 PM

for what? A pseudo clip show. NO ONE LIKES CLIP SHOWS!

It drove me to write a spec ###### finale just to have some closure. (Weird I know)

Re: There's an interesting question going around about Dexter...

Sep 24, 2013, 4:41 PM

I don't know, but Breaking Bad is going to have to be like 4 hours long, or super fast paced in the last episode.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

thats the bad thing about story finale's

Sep 24, 2013, 4:45 PM

where the story builds upon itself for years. You can't give away the ending to the finale tends to be rushed to get all the info in. Finale's like this should be 2-3 hours min imo.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg2005_majors_champ.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-xtiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think Breaking Bad is going to be like that....

Sep 24, 2013, 4:53 PM

It's not that convoluted of a story. One of its strengths has been that it's a rather simply story and as such its ending should be easy to close.

Shows like LOST or the X-Files where they are completely convoluted stories by the end are where the finales are almost impossible to do well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

true. Lost had a million holes to fill

Sep 24, 2013, 4:54 PM

but never got around to it. Thats what disappointed me most is never finding out what some of the #### was.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg2005_majors_champ.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-xtiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Writers strike and not having a ending date hurt the show...

Sep 24, 2013, 5:01 PM

They answered a ton of mysteries, but there were so many that it felt like they didn't answer anything.

I have a theory that if LOST and Breaking Bad switched networks and years, LOST would be the superior show simply because the 13-ish episodes seasons as well as short series lengths makes for better storytelling imo. Could you imagine what having to air 20+ episodes a season would have done to a show like Breaking Bad?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But there is so many loose ends that have to be wrapped up

Sep 24, 2013, 4:55 PM [ in reply to I don't think Breaking Bad is going to be like that.... ]

I guess you can have one big shoot'em up to end it all and then end it. Looking forward to it, but I hate to see it end. Kind of like the Shield.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What loose ends? (spoilers)

Sep 24, 2013, 5:03 PM

Walt vs. the Nazis (and Jesse)

Getting his family cleared (I think Skylar is still going to be punished)

what others am I missing?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What loose ends? (spoilers)

Sep 24, 2013, 5:09 PM

Yeah those plus those all have loose ends too,
Jessie's Mexi-kid
Skylar and her sister
Bodies of Hank
The money barrels
Blue Meth distributor chick (can't remember her name)
The lawyer (can't remember his name either and maybe that one is done)
Just seems like there is too much in to wrap up in an hour.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

DVR note: Like this last ep, it'll go 75min....

Sep 24, 2013, 5:19 PM

Don't miss anything like I almost did.

As for those loose ends:

Brock will be addressed, I have no doubts. The fact they killed Jesse's ex-girlfriend makes this 100% gonna happen.

not sure what loose end there is with Skylar and Marie. I'd say their relationship as sisters is over. Question is will Skylar do time/kill herself (doubt she'll off herself)

Walt will probably tell them where the bodies are, but I don't really need closure on this issue. We, the audience, know where he is.

Money barrels, and this is just my guess, will burn up when Walt goes after the Nazis. I expect some sort of explosion or scene with Walt watching his money burn.

Lady Distributor chick, I think she and Todd are gonna end each other's storyline. (she shoots him or him her)

Lawyer: Sal is getting a spin-off(prequel). He is going to Nebraska to live as a manager of doughnut franchise or something.

Some things probably won't be wrapped up, but I really don't see much they really need to wrap up. The show is all about Walter White and as long as there is some sort of closure with his story, then that's all we really need to see.

Probably so, but since The Shield, this is the one show I hate to see end.

The Shield is on my list of series to watch at some point

but far better than the hate its gotten.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not by a long shot

Sep 24, 2013, 4:47 PM

The best was Six Feet Under

They showed future clips of how every character died

THAT is a finale!

Corporations are people. So is Soylent Green.

Why did people hate the last Dexter.

Sep 24, 2013, 4:48 PM

I rank the last Everybody Loves Raymond up there pretty high, mostly because I didn't even know it was the final episode the first 5 times I saw it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought they did Dexter as good as they probably

Sep 24, 2013, 4:51 PM

could've.

The only ending that would've freaked people out would to have Dexter die in front of his son in a pool of blood but that would've sucked.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg2005_majors_champ.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-xtiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up
