So are we investing in crypto again?

Feb 16, 2021, 8:54 AM

A while back (and I don’t even remember exactly when), I put a (very) small amount of money into Ethereum and an equal amount into Litecoin. Predictably the bottom dropped out and they both were down about 2/3 of my original investment. Now ETH is actually up over 60% and LTC is still down but only by about 1/3.

What do, jounge investment team?

Not to split hairs, but buy cryptocurrency is not...

Feb 16, 2021, 8:57 AM

"investing" it's gambling...which I, of course, have no problem with, but let's not pretend anything is being invested in.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no different than the stock market, really***

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, that's not really true at all...

Feb 16, 2021, 3:51 PM

when you buy a stock, you own a part of the company. If the stock pay dividends, you effectively get a portion of the company's profit. As a very general sense, the stock trades based on what the company is "worth".

You can't say the same thing about cryptocurrency. It's all speculation on where it might one day be accepted for trade and how it is "mined".

Go around your neighborhood and start a pyramid scheme

Feb 16, 2021, 9:04 AM

You would have more luck that way. Just make it $5 or $10. Big enough neighborhood you should clear several thousand.

How stocks and bitcoin, or anything can be legal, while a pyramid scheme isn't, makes no sense. Especially bitcoin. It's pure pyramid. You have 21 million bitcoins. That's it.

I have .01287 bitcoin(s). It changes by the second. I have a fixed investment. It's stupid, but so far I'm uo $150 on the month. I didn't gamble when we went to Vegas. So I used that and went all in with my Vegas gambling allowance. So far it's been better than I would have done at the tables.

Are you mixing up pyramid and ponzie schemes

Feb 16, 2021, 9:06 AM

because pyramid schemes to be running strong all the time.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nah, I think it's pyramid.

Feb 16, 2021, 9:08 AM

Investors are recruiting other investors to boost the earnings.

Wait, my example was ponzi. Sorry. Same difference basically. Bitcoin is more pyramidish.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-tiggity-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I mean, pyramid is bad, but I guess the right person

Feb 16, 2021, 9:27 AM

COULD make a ton of money, but they'll be taking advantage of others in crappy ways to do so.

It is funny how those folks who want you to get in are sure that you and them will make sooo much money, but they never want to pay your initiation fee.

I put $1000 into Bitcoin back during the last craze

Feb 16, 2021, 9:06 AM

when Bitcoin was around $1600.

I totally forgot about it and somehow found my Coinbase password. I now have $3000.

I feel like I just won the lottery. How should I spend the $2000? Probably penny stocks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Umm....you have more than that.

Feb 16, 2021, 9:10 AM

You added or forgot some zeros somewhere.

yeah, but not anytime soon

Feb 16, 2021, 3:50 PM [ in reply to Is he ever going to pull out?*** ]

he's already got no debt, 40-something, never married/kids....on his 3rd rental prop (we gots plans, there, tho)...he could retire right now, but all he does (and WANTS to do) is work, and go fishing...

he's very confident that it'll hit a million per BTC

he's got 20 BC, plus whatever other crypto he's sitting on....

I sold mine (not much) @ $31k, and he still thinks it's worth buying back in now, where it's at, even at a 'loss' (tho i made several thou selling where i did)
