Brownlee pumpers.... stop using other teams as an excuse

Mar 21, 2021, 4:31 PM

Yes.... Texas and Illinois lost. OK... we get it. But they're REAL basketball programs. We ARE lead by a clown.

Using a example like that makes you a 1000% TOMMY BOWDEN LOSER. Our program is lost under this guy... WAKE UP!

Wow I hope you feel better after that post. You seem like a really rational guy.

Wish you were a real Tiger fan and could get over a loss when the team reached their only goal of getting to the NCAA tourney during a Covid season. You sound like you used to be a #### fan but converted because you can’t stand losing! GO TIGERS!!!

Covid is tough indeed. But after 11 years how can one make an excuse. Either we're in or out it all goes back to what are the expectations for basket ball.

Not sure about the clown part but it seems to me that there has been a long period of middle of the road coaching by Brownel. The last game was painful. With a minute or so to go in a very close game and we are down, with 5 fouls why not quickly extend the game by getting them on the foul line: They shoot 63% from line. We play it out and lose a lot of time. Also when we get down to the end we have Hunter try a 3. Coach why is he
even in the game, Hunter from 3 is 30%, FG 31%, FT 66% in 14 min per game. Bad call. I think the number is we have exited in the first round 5 0f the last 7 tourneys ( NCAA, NIT and ACC ) More than half of those we were favored. I understand CU love for FB so I feel for Brownel. We support our team but we need someone to light a fire on the sport. That means change in CU attitude about the sport and a different approach.

I love Clemson -- was ther in the Horace-Elden-Dale years

And I love basketball, and winning.

But not winning at any cost. I assume Brad isn't cheating because if he is, he's not very good at it. I suspect it's nearly impossible to win clean. So I respect him. He's not a clown.

But if you want to compare to other teams, a much better comparison is Loyola. They can't recruit against anyone. But if you know anything about basketball x's and o's, what you saw today was a Master Class in coaching. Illinois was out-schemed and out-coached. Loyola was disciplined and played great fundamental basketball. It was a thing of beauty, honestly.

But secondly, Loyola played with great passion and "want to". In 11 years I've only seen small flashes of that "hair-on-fire" from Brownell's teams. Great coaches reach inside a player and bring out what the player didn't even know was there -- they get him to go beyond. You saw that today from Loyola.

We're much more like Loyola in what we can do from a recruiting standpoint -- mostly 3 and 4 stars. But they're light years ahead of us coaching-wise. The contrast is staggering.

Brad's a good ambassador, citizen, and guy -- from all I can tell. I like him and want him to succeed. But he's not a great coach, and he won't be any time soon.

I, for one, think Clemson could and should be great in basketball. The fact that we settle for mediocrity is on us, not Brad.
