Brownell -- The Most Underappreciated Coach In The NCAA

I didn't say it. Seth Greenberg said it in studio Saturday. Some of you hardliners need to open your eyes. Brownell is a solid coach who has built a program at Clemson. In recent games, Clemson GRIT has been on full display.

I'll admit, he's started off hot this year!

i'll admit

Awesome, Thank You So Much

For admitting the obvious.
The Idiot Factor is on full display today.
How about you guys take a break until we are not in the top 4 of the league?
Idiot.

Yep, and I appreciate what his team has done so far this season, but the season isn't over, and if they continue to play the way they have, it has taken 3 times longer than most schools would have allowed him to stay!!!

I couldn’t have said it better myself cobbox. The pieces have come together very nicely this year. It’s obvious to me, and anyone who loves Clemson basketball, that the entire team has bought into what Brad is doing. Every guy on the team seems to know, and enjoy, what is role is and is prepared to do his job. I have been a little hesitant in believing what I was seeing on the court but it is working 100%. I think he has brought in a few new assistants to the program so perhaps that helps to explain this surge to the top.

We might even have a good game in Carmichael! Wouldnt that blow up some skirts.

Carmichael? The tar hole's men's team hasn't played at Carmichael Auditorium since 1986. A joke or a senior moment? If a senior moment, no worries as we all have those or will have those when getting older.

The name was changed to protect the innocent!

It will always be the Dean Dome to me and I know they moved out several years ago. The last game I attended in Chapel Hill I was a guest of coach Smith. I did some work on a tract of land they owned up here in the Blue Ridge Mts. and the foundation sent me to tickets to the Tigers v. Tar Heels. A long time ago and the Tigers got smashed!

I hope you’re right. We are playing well and fun to watch

But if we don’t get an NCAA invite this year, he should be gone. He has missed many more tourneys than he’s made, so count me still concerned.

GoTiguhs!!

Sounds like an honest fair expectation. I totally agree with this. No trophies are awarded at this time. Judge Brownell at tbe end of tbe season and pray tbat this leopard can change his spots!

This team could make a run!
They look solid, not praying for 3 pointers to drop as an offense.

Go Tigers!

Seth has been saying that for a while

I'm glad we are playing well this year but what has he built

3

Jan 8, 2023, 11:56 AM

?

Did we make the Tourney last year and I missed it?

He's been "building this program" for 13 years and we finished 17-16 last year. Can you help me see what he has built?

He has built a consistent winning program. Something which has not happened very often at Clemson

Awesome. 3 years of play like this

Building usually requires you to continue getting better...

That is where Brownell has always struggled. One good year then 2-3 going 16-15/17-16. Lets see him break that habit.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seth Greenberg lol.

Jan 8, 2023, 12:23 PM

That’s cause Seth can relate to not making it into the tournament. Only difference is Brad doesn’t cry about It.

Built a program?

What the hayull kind of mushrooms are you on, because you are tripping your bawls off.

Look, I like Brad Brownell - I am NOT a hater. I do think he is a good coach, and I understand that he has done an admirable job given the challenges he has faced at a school like Clemson with a terrible basketball history, relatively limited resources, and where football is king. I am thrilled with the success we are having right now and I respect the job he is doing. But ...

The program he has built is looking good right now, but over time, say the last 5 years to be fair, which gives him a full 7 seasons to get the ball rolling while looking at where the program is more recently, we have averaged a 7th place finish in conference and an average conference record of 9-9. The program he has built is the very definition of MEDIOCRITY. There is no escaping that, no deflecting, no rationalization that can change that cold, hard FACT.

To summarize, and to your point, while I like Brownell and believe he is a good coach, and he has done a decent job given the circumstances, and I hope the current level of play continues, the program he has built is the very definition of mediocre. Could somebody else have done better? Maybe, maybe not, that's a fair debate, but to suggest that he has built a program that is anything but mediocre is absurd.
