Graham Neff what will his mark be

Jan 7, 2022, 4:14 PM

Every new CEO has to come in and make his mark. Something that puts his stamp on the company. What will Neff’s be? He inherited amazing facilities, football is still at its highest level, a new softball program with instant success, and a national Championship soccer program. So where does he look for improvement?

Two sore thumbs in my opinion, a struggling baseball program, and a basketball program that has been “status quo” for 12 years. I believe these programs will be evaluated thoroughly by Neff for major changes including the head coaching positions.

^^ Exactly..

Jan 7, 2022, 4:24 PM

those two suckk and it’s especially sad about baseball since it went to the CWS couple times ranked #1 (both times Coots took us out & won Title!) and Clemson baseball never fully recovered imho..

while basketball has had 2-3 arena overhauls costing millions (even reducing seating capacity & improving sight lines) and basically Zip return on our $.

Clemson will never be and I’ll say it again..a basket ball school.. (oh, we’ve had a few years here & there & couple really good coaches & teams but none ever lasted).

We were historically a giant in the early days of college football in the South primarily due to John Heisman. In fact Clemson was known as the Scourge of The South since we beat up on Alabama, GT, Sewanee of The South, Auburn..

Oh sheet, guess Judge Keller will be knocking on my door! ??

A bit harsh, LBB.

But accurate. I'd add WBB to the initial list, but we probably need to give Coach B a couple more years.

Hiring good coaches in all sports that have vacancies and keeping the athletic department in the black is all that any AD can be asked to do.

I had read that GT was the powerhouse in the south back in the day and thought they were too good to play us in the beginnings.

You named it. Fix basketball and baseball.

I’m not sure if Monte is the answer or not in baseball.

We know a head coaching change is needed in men’s hoops.

I do not feel Brownell can do anymore. Interest in basketball is as bad as I can remember. Not sure if it’s Covid or people are just tired of the same ole every year. I’m really pulling for MLee. Not sure what has been going on but hope he can get it turned around.

When you think about it, must have been really hard to spot

Jan 7, 2022, 5:59 PM

forgeries back in those days when some men actually signed with an "X" because they were not literate. Just imagine in today's world, trusting someone to read something to you, and tell you where to make your "mark" to make it an official binding document, without being able to read it for yourself.

Scam Artists truly would own the world.

I have gotten the Amazon phone scam call two days running.

Jan 8, 2022, 9:29 AM

And, I have opted out of the Extended Car Warranty and Medicare Plans about a dozen times each already.

Even though the call I got each time was the "last courtesy call before being dropped from their call list."

Good thing I am on the National Do Not Call Registry, or no telling HOW many of these calls I would be getting!

If i were him i would start with basketball. College baseball recruiting is an uphill struggle vs schools with huge endowments.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

Honestly,

Jan 7, 2022, 5:37 PM

I don’t believe Neff will make a move with Coach Brownell at the end of this season unless the wheels completely fall off which I personally don’t think they will.

Next would be baseball. I think there’s a higher chance that Monte would/will be let go.

Ofcourse I don’t know the relationships that Dan had with Monte and Brad just like I don’t know what Neff’s relationships are with them either. However, a mediocre to sub par season would have landed Monte in the crosshairs of Dan.

Ofcourse both coaches have their destiny in their own hands. Win enough games and take the pressure of yourself. So we’ll see how both do with the games they’ve got.

Re: Honestly,

Jan 7, 2022, 5:51 PM

According to Brownell, Neff has been his “sports supervisor” for 9 years. (Whatever that means) All I know Brownell was pumping Neff big time. Seemed like a little brown nosing to me. But no doubt their working relationship is very strong.

I think Monte’s seat warmed up a good bit when DRad left.

Brad and Graham have a great relationship.

Jan 8, 2022, 10:35 AM

My hope is that Graham gives Brad and the program more of what they need to be successful before considering a change. I believe that is exactly what will happen.
