with my neighbors before the SB today too. I missed 20 or so straight before that, but I prefer to focus on the one that went in.

I don't like this line of reasoning. Yes, players who weren't highly touted can be superstars. Etienne was a 3 Star. We all know Renfrow. Boulware was one of our best captains ever. We have plenty of examples. Tonight, there were a number of stars who weren't huge high school recruits, including Burrow. I have no problem with bringing in a high risk-high reward player you think has a lot of upside.
But at the end of the day, star rankings are a pretty good judge of talent for the majority of players. The percentage of 5 Stars that are busts (which there are, look at DJ5 or Bowman) is much, much smaller than the percentage of 3 Stars that are busts. Cooper Kupps are very much the exception to the rule. If we were singing 20 blue chip players and then a couple 3 Stars, I don't think anyone would have a problem with that. I think we did that in 2019. When you're filling your class with 3 Stars, that's when it becomes a problem. It's not a coincidence that the top 3-4 programs right now sign 20+ bluechips every single year.

ETN was a 3* by one service. Consensus 4*. Every team probably has one Renfrow, kupp, heck, kelcy? sp? TE was a two star.
But what Deaf says is correct. You can't fill your roster with them. For one, you'd have to be a fortune teller to identify 50 to fill your roster. Lots of consideration. Some kids don't camp, don't send film to a bunch of schools etc so they don't get rated high.

Tigernet members love to rewrite the " * " history of player. By the end of the week someone will declare that Travis Etienne, coming out of HS was a "2 star", by the three major recruiting services-

Burrow was 4*
But I agree with the point. On average, you hit more than you miss with higher-rated players compared to lower-rated players. Nobody is out there “targeting” 1/2/3 star guys. Each school is targeting who they think will help them win, factored in with culture and academic fit.

It amazes me every time I see if posted on here about Ben Boulware being some Cinderella story.
He was 4 star player and an Under Armour All-American in high school.
He was a highly rated player, but Venables was late to offer because he wasn't sure if Boulware would translate to his scheme in college. Eventually he saw what he needed to and the rest is history.
TNET posters, please stop pretending that nobody else in the country wanted to sign Travis Etienne or Ben Boulware. They are not in the same category as Hunter Renfrow unless you are discussing great players at Clemson regardless of recruiting rankings.
TIA in advance!

That's not what I'm saying at all...? I'm just saying that some of us need to stop complaining about getting 3/2/1 stars, as some of them could be diamonds in the rough like Kupp.
