Bresee

There was an article about players with first round grades and he was not listed. He'll still go early, but makes you think he made a mistake.

I felt his career was crazy in that he was injured, a caretaker, in mourning &

Jan 21, 2023, 2:24 PM

was double-teamed and pushed out of position too often and when he rushed the QB without restraint his wide angles caused him to over exert himself.

Loved seeing him play along with his energy & desire but for some reason I never thought he lived up to MY expectations in a "consistent way" since his career seemed so short and all over the board.

Yea I’m sure we did not ever get to witness his best because of the personal issues he endured during his time here.

He was not as good as advertised.

No, he is that good. He went thru a tough time during his tenure, so I think everyone wants him back, yet understands the economics involved.
Enigmatic? Yes.
Not good? No.

I don't think anyone is saying "not good". I think they are saying he was a top three overall recruit in the country if not #1 and for one reason or another he did not dominate the game at that level. He had some tough breaks over the past three years and he may go late first round or lower. I think to go higher he needs to blow folks away at the combine and pro day. After that he has his whole pro career to prove to everyone how good he can be.

"not as good as advertised". Is correct. needed to stay another year and show he's a player who can make plays.

He will test well at the combine and has all the metrics. Throw in his story and HS pedigree… mid-1st round. Green Bay is my wild guess.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I get the senior-season injury, but he has gone through…

Jan 23, 2023, 12:00 AM [ in reply to that's not what the dude said: ]

…an ACL injury and returned in good shape. Not 100%, but good.

The financial differences in going early 1st round versus late 2nd round can be substantial.

It is my perception that a defensive tackle knee injury is less likely (yes, he tore his ACL at NC State in what seemed to be a non-contact situation), especially if he is wearing the knee brace. Yes, the knee brace can impact performance, but it would seem to be worth it.

XT seems to have the right attitude. XT has had a lot of injuries, but he feels quite strongly that he needs that senior year without an injury to really show what he can do at the NFL level.

Not being selfish here to just have him play another year at Clemson, but BB really does seem to need another year to shine. If he does, it would be financially worth it. If not, he would not seem to be any worse off.

He was every bit as good as advertised and anyone saying what you did is a dope. He started and dominated as a true freshman and was hurt his sophomore year. This past year, he missed game from injury and his sister.
What a silly thing to say and clearly you don’t know football or probably much else

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well if you have to make various excuses for why he didn’t perform better

then it’s safe to say that he wasn’t as good as advertised.

Could he have been, had he not had injuries and family stuff to deal with? Maybe.

But he still didn’t have the dominant performances, and certainly not on a consistent basis, that his high school recruiting rankings would suggest.

Hopefully he will do great at pro day and the combine and make an NFL team very glad they picked him.

No, Judge Judy, he was every bit as good as advertised. Injuries happen and who saw what happened to his sister happening while he was trying to play football? You can be a real prick.

This is stupid. You literally just gave reasons for why he did not have good seasons two of the three years he was here. Are they real reasons? Absolutely. But whatever the reason, he didn't have the career one would typically expect of the #1 recruit in the country.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"If you have to make excuses"? Are you serious?

Jan 24, 2023, 12:14 AM [ in reply to Well if you have to make various excuses for why he didn’t perform better ]

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of.

I guess in your mind, legit reasons = excuses. Try using that phrase in serious conversations with people in person.

The anonymity of the internet really brings out the nonsense in some folks.

2

Jan 21, 2023, 3:32 PM

He got way out of shape and didn’t play well

He’s got a legit excuse, but don’t fool yourself - the NFL doesn’t care

He might go late first round, but probably a mid second rounder.

I think he would be a top 10 pick coming off a healthy year in playing shape

Re: Bresee

Jan 21, 2023, 5:34 PM

He needs to come back and have an All American year. He has shown nothing yet to deserve a first round nod. His life has been a series of roadblocks the past two years and I was really hoping he would come back and have a HUGE year and possibly go number one overall. He has that kind of ability but has been plagued with one catastrophe after another for 3 years. One great year at Clemson could have made him Zillions of $$$$$$.

He has been a 1st round pick based solely off of measurables

I agree with anyone that says he should have come back for his senior season. It was not a good year for him because of his sister, and that couldn't be helped. But, he comes back and dominates and he's top 5 which is a lot of money

NFL teams aren't the brightest, look at the first round take of Johnny Manziel and Robert Nkemdiche. Nkemdiche was the top rated guy in the country coming out of high school and fizzled at Ole Miss and they still took him and Manziel is mental.

I just spent way too much time googling mock drafts. Roughly 80% of them have Bresee going in the first round, as high as 6th overall. He is doing the right thing.

Re: Bresee

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A lot of guys with 1st round talent don't go in the 1st

Jan 24, 2023, 10:17 AM

round due to NFL team needs - if a team needs a DL guy more than a CB with better upside, they will usually take the D-Lineman. You never know which guy who is near the top at his position will drop to the 2nd round because of team needs or who is seen as second round moves up.

Could have assured his draft position by playing another year!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bresee

Jan 24, 2023, 12:41 PM

So a few weeks ago many were saying he will declare for the draft because 1st round top 10
Money is too much to turn down. Now it’s more like mid 2nd round? If that’s the draft grade he got then it was a bad decision to leave early. He still has areas of his game to work on and the NFL wants a more complete player if they are investing in someone they need to contribute right away. A mid 2nd round selection would validate an injury history concern and things that are missing in his technique. A great combine can only partly offset the game tape teams are evaluating.

If you are already a first rounder, you don't come back. Too much risk.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bresee

Jan 24, 2023, 1:45 PM

He didn't make a mistake. I still think he's a bonafide first rounder. Good size and speed for a defensive tackle. Sure, I'd love to have him back because we only got to see him play one full season in his freshman year. NFL teams know his potential and what he can bring when healthy.
