Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your application for the Head Football Coaching at Auburn University. We really appreciate your interest in joining our program, and we’re pleased that you decided to invest time and effort in applying.

We carefully reviewed a large number of applications; unfortunately, at this time we won’t be able to invite you to the next stage of the hiring process. Though your qualifications were not impressive, we have decided to move forward with a candidate whose qualifications are better suited to this particular role.

However, we hope you’ll apply again in the future if you see a job opening more suited to your qualifications.

To which Coach Beamer will reply:

Dear Auburn,

Thank you for your letter of October 31st. After careful consideration I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me employment with your program.

This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually large number of rejection letters. With such a varied and promising field of candidates it is impossible for me to accept all refusals.

Despite Auburn's outstanding qualifications and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at this time. Therefore I will initiate employment with your program immediately following the loss to Clemson next month. I look forward to seeing you then.
