Electrical Engineers GITT with an interview question

Say you have recently installed an over the sink florescent light. Say that light worked the night you put it in.
Say that now when you flip the switch the light flashes once then goes off and can't be turned back on.
Say that when you flip the switch off and flip it back on it happens again. Flash of light, nothing.
What would you say is the problem here.

Remote for den TV stopped working. I'm doing something important and wasn't watching TV and hardly do anyway. So wife then tells me remote is broken. I go check and sure enough, nada. Asked and she said she put brand new batteries in the remote. I tried a bunch of crap, wasted about 30 mins, then said fuggit and ordered a new remote from Amazon. Kids ticked because TV was out of service.
New remote arrives. I unwrap it, then put "new" batteries from old remote in new remote, not wanting to waste batteries. Try it out. NOTHING. So, what are the odds? Go MYSELF into the battery box, pull out two NEW batteries, replace, new remote works. THEN took batteries and put them in old remote. IT WORKED.

Truth is, you may have been a little shaky in your install. It happens. Figure out how to wire up simple electrical devices. It doesn’t take a genius, I promise. Turn off the electricity and test that bad boy. Wire it up like a stallion! Electrical skill comes with the ability to work things hot. It’s not a real measurable device. Do you wishing the existing limitations.

So he'll argue with 5 other people that it CAN'T be the ballast, and he'll end up tying chicken bones to it and doing a séance with a Ouija board before he finally fixes it and puts in a new light, because it will be cheaper than getting a ballast for it.
His troubleshooting skillz amaze me.
