That the main reason he thought it was time is that he didn’t think he was the best man for the job anymore after the last two seasons.
At what point would Brad Brownell come to that conclusion here you think?

Well I have 2 granddaughters at Clemson, have lived in the area for 33 years , and have used multiple Clemson resources in my business. So, I’m not just some guy on your boards trying to cause trouble. But thanks for the warm welcome. As for my knowledge of what happened at UNC, I was there!!!!

Questions:
How many no-show classes did you take? Do you think that making all those no-show classes available to the student body casts a cloud over your degree? Did you approve of the school’s argument that the no-show classes wasn’t an NCAA issue because they were open to non-athletes? Do you believe this should affect the school’s accreditation?
TIA

After paying +20 million to keep banners up and program intact he has had to recruit student athletes. No more test takers and no show degrees and his new roster was in full display this year. Doherty didn’t follow Deans agenda- Roy did. Until it got exposed.
He made the right choice. Get out now

If the fans would just let him be mediocre in peace all would be good. On a serious note, I think next year will be his last IF he has a bad year. He might make the tournament again though. I am looking forward to next season. It will be interesting to see what our roster will look like.

Why do Clemson basketball fans think next year will be better than this year? We are loosing the best player and leader of the team Amir Simms, one of the top guards on the team Clyde Trapp and center Jonathan Bher. O-Max has left the program along with John Newman and the best incoming freshman has changed his mind. At best this team will be thin on players that can contribute.

No Cobbox, he's not the man for us. Quite simple actually.
Here’s a look at the Tigers’ recruiting classes over the past five years and how it ranks in terms of the ACC (according to 247 Sports).
2015: No. 82 nationally, 14th in the ACC 2016: No. 116 nationally, 15th in the ACC. 2017: No. 46 nationally, 9th in the ACC. 2018: No. 62 nationally, 10th in the ACC. 2019: No. 43 nationally, 9th in the ACC. It should be pointed out that the 2020 class is ranked No. 34 nationally and 8th in the ACC, and then those players have left that made it 34.
This is the adjusted ranking with the transfers. If you're ok with that kind of recruiting, then you're correct. Personally all the thousands of discussions over basketball excuses are meaningless until this issue is resolved. Imho.
This is the worst recruit ranking of any Clemson sport over the last 5 years, including tennis.

So what you’re saying is that Brad is an incredible coach
Apr 1, 2021, 9:48 PM
[ in reply to Re: CBB is the best man for the Clemson job ] |

to be able to take such inferior talent and get them into the top third of the conference twice, the NCAA Tournament twice (including a Sweet 16), win a gold medal in the World University Games, beat UNC in Chapel Hill for the first time ever, and tie the school record for wins over NCAA Tournament teams in a season, all during the last 5 years you referenced.

Not at all. He did pretty much what any coach should do with that talent level. Last time I checked, 68 teams get a birth. When you recruiting in the 40-60 range, you generally should make the tourney.
The gold medal was nice but seriously, taking Brad colored glasses off, the competition was weak.
The ACC is succumbing to the same parity as every p5 basketball conference is. As stated in my other post, the ACC has been going down the last few years. With the one and dones, and the transfer rules, basketball is changing. Seems you'd recognize that.
But I guess like everyone, you want to bend the stats to fit your agenda. That's cool. So to answer your question, Brad is NOT a great coach. He's a good mid major coach that recruits mid major talent. As such, you'll be a Loyola or a Rutgers every so often... But not consistent.

Complaining about his awful recruiting, but being unable to acknowledge what a great coaching job he must have done to win with such inferior talent, isn’t being fair. You’re better than that.
To make the NCAA Tournament as an at- large team, you generally need to be in the top 35-40. Based on what you posted, we don’t have top 40 talent. Our average recruiting ranking, based on your numbers, is 64th nationally.
In addition, based on those recruiting rankings, we should be finishing in the bottom half the ACC, not the top half - and certainly not 5th. Our average ACC rank for recruiting is 11th in the conference.
If not because of good coaching, how else do you explain Brad’s teams finishing well above what the recruiting rankings would suggest?!?

And the fact that he cannot win in the tournament and we have no offense and all of his players are leaving and..... I think you get the picture. Dabo's endorsements are helping him tremendously.

He has a .500 record in the NCAA Tournament at Clemson. He got us to the Sweet 16 a few years ago.
Someone who couldn’t win in the NCAA Tournament was Purnell. He was 0-3 here, and was the higher seed every time.

Why would he come to that conclusion? He raised money to build a decent facility. Since then recruiting and post season invites have followed. The next step should be exciting

I thought the same thing when I saw Coach Williams comment. An article I read last night hinted that the recruiting process had become more difficult. I think it takes a special coach to connect with the athletes that are coming through now whether it’s baseball softball football or golf. If you don’t love kids and enjoy Working with them and seeing them grow you need to get out. I think Coach Williams has always enjoyed his players and he’s done a great job. Coach Brownell is not comfortable with the players he is recruiting and he does not connect with them.
