In fact, by making it this year , i think he bought himself a couple more years.

Just how I see it in basketball.

Judge Keller must have numerous pen names.

She has at least 3..

Posted: Mar 15, 2021, 10:47 AM

all you have to do is watch when she replies with all 3 in one thread, even going as far as to reply to herself.

Whatever. Weird, but whatever. I just wish she didn't TD everything I post. Oh well, not that big of a deal. If it makes her feel like a man, then whatever.

You are delusional.

I don't have any other usernames here. Just this one.

And I don't TD everything you post. In fact, I don't recall the last time I gave a TD.

I disagree. Remember...

Even she was on board with looking in a new direction last year, until she changed her tune.

Judge doesn't care about football, but she does want to win tournament games.

Brad's mission is very, very clear. Show something, now, or good luck to you.

I like Brad. I'm rooting for him. But...

You aren't rooting for him.

Stop telling yourself and everyone else you are.

You're one of those who "refuses to settle for mediocrity" and who has "high standards" for the basketball program, and decided a long time ago that you don't like Brownell or think he's a good coach.

This outlook keeps you from enjoying the good season we're having, or having any sort of objectivity whatsoever.

I feel sorry for you.

Is Brownell better than the coach at GT?

three (3) NCAA Tournament appearances in eleven years is NOT what I would consider consistent.

What about making 2 of the last 3 NCAA Tournaments?

That's pretty consistent.

Give him credit for the 13/14 season. He was robbed there. The folks dipped below us to select NC State which we BEAT about a week/two prior.

Next, he has accounted for 25% of our dances. 3 (or 4) in 11 years definitely outpaced our previous 9 out of 70 other previous years.

Since 2013, he has had us at or above 8 wins a season save for 17 season and we were better than our record - as that was the year everyone said we could not win close games. It was also our first year back from being homeless. We have been better than .500 in conference (and finally) not a doormat. I remember the years with Shyatt knowing that our date with FSU in 8/9 seed game would be our final game of the season. Now, we have been a legitimate challenger each year for the NCAA and making it and winning once we do make it.

That's an awfully arbitrary way to look at trends. Instead of "9 out of 70" years, I could just as easily state that we made it 3 out of 3 years before Brad. Now, the comparison is awfully slanted against him, right?

Don't be arbitrary in your statistical analyses.

But that would have been a very narrow small sample and not representative as a while. Anyone who spent any time in stats at Clemson (ie Ex Stat for me) should know not to look at OP's last three years as the "norm". Plus he packed and left shortly after. Or how about the other time (ie 96-98)... and then Barnes also took the cab at midnight.

Don't make that argument. Only folks bad at stats, and of course coots fail upon that line of thinking. Don't crow about how "good" the Coots are as a football program by taking in 2010-2012 as their example.

How about this, lets compare ourselves against NC State - a program with better history and is much more willing to spend resources to win. BB has as many/more NCAA appearances than Keatts in the past 5 years. We have been a more stable program and fewer "ethical" issues than State.

Don't be State and run off a good coach due to unrealistic stupidity(see Herb)

Our performance 70 years ago is much less representative than what we did in the years immediately preceding the coach you are assessing.

The fact coaches left after periods of success is also irrelevant. How and why do you think that should have any impact on BB?

"Don't make that argument. Only folks bad at stats, and of course coots fail upon that line of thinking. Don't crow about how "good" the Coots are as a football program by taking in 2010-2012 as their example."

This is exactly my point. You've chosen a statistically irrelevant time period of 70 years to claim Brad is successful. I'm not making the opposite argument in my 3 years' Purnell statement, as that would also be statistically irrelevant. I'm making a comparison so that you can see how you can skew these numbers to support either side.

About 70 years ago (1956), we hired our first full-time Clemson baketball coach - Press Maravich. Prior to that, our "coaches" were assistant football coaches moonlighting as a means to support football salary. Imagine BV coaching Basketball - yeah. So for me, since we hired a dedicated basketball coach, we can use that for our "statistics". By that metric, he is our most successful coach.

My other point is that Clemson Basketball has not had anything "sustained" other than "sustained doormat" status. Our only successful runs resulted in the coach departing as fast as OP's outting in the NCAA and NEVER extended beyond specific recruiting classes. Our "success" has previously been riding a few NBA talent to a slightly .500 finish in conference. For the first time I know about we have been consistently better.

Since BB's having a facility, we have actually started consistently out-performing NC State - Keatts anyway and that should be noted for the success that is is within the ACC. Finally, since you missed my Herb reference, I say don't be NC State. You don't run off a good coach. We have done so cleanly, without attracting attention to the football team via the NCAA stupidity.

So it's okay for you to use Purnell's last few years

Posted: Mar 15, 2021, 3:14 PM

but it's not okay to use Brad's last several years?

Purnell 2007-2010:
68-30 overall (.693)
28-20 ACC (.583)
3 NCAA Tournaments (0-3)

Brownell 2017-2021:
77-46 overall (.626)
39-33 ACC (.541)
2 NCAA Tournaments (3-2 in 2018, Sweet 16; 2021 TBD)
1 NIT (1-1)

That compares favorably, and I think many people here would take Brad's slightly less successful winning percentage in the regular season for the success he has had in the NCAA Tournament.

If we only count seasons that gave us the option for postseason play (taking out last year, which was ended because of COVID) we have:

Brownell 2017-2019, 2021:
61-31 overall (.663)
30-22 ACC (.577)
2 NCAA Tournaments
1 NIT

Either way, I think Brad's last few years are quite comparable to Purnell's last few years.

I'm not using OP's last few years...I'm not making a comparison at all. Keep up. I said quite clearly, choosing arbitrarily to use 70 years of history to help one side of the argument doesn't stand up any differently than choosing 3 years of history to support the other side.

Oh yeah, sure......

I love going to restaurants but not being able to eat.

Your opinion in noted. If you enjoy smelling the food but not being able to eat, then more power to ya. However, money talks. Loudly. The basketball program has TONS of potential... we're literally flushing it down the toilet.

Good thing your opinion is nothing more than a pie in the sky pipe dream.

Go Tigers. Win.. I'm everything.

What we are experiencing now is the ceiling for Clemson basketball. If everyone is good with this, then Brownell should be kept for a long time. A 7 seed with a chance to win 1 or 2 in the tournament is the ceiling with him. It's not bad, but for those of you that think he has more to give you are wrong. This is it!!

How is that the ceiling when

we were a 5 seed in 2018 and made it to the Sweet 16?

You realize making it to the sweet 16 is the same thing as "winning 1 or 2 in the tournament", right?

Yes, consistently making the tourney will surely secure his job.

But consistently missing the tourney hasn't seemed to cost him his job.

So which season would you have canned him, huh?

2014 when we had 23 wins, 10-8 in conference and were outright robbed a big dance ticket?

2015-2017 - the renovation years? I don't know if any real coach would give us the time of day if we fired someone because they could not win when their main facility was basically a pile of dirt and had no resources.

Not the Sweet-Sixteen year, the year afterwards? That would be a near Tony Bennett level move. Still won 20 games that year while missing Jaron for leaving early.

The 19/20 season? I will grant you I was ready to move on after the Yale game but they coaxed themselves back to life.

This year when we were 10-6 in conference and dancing?

Winthrop received twice as many top 25 votes than we did

in the latest poll. We got five. But on the positive side we are one of only 68 teams in the country to make the tourney. So yeah.. ok seriously though the good news is Miami didn’t make it so we dodged that bullett
