Bowl game without Watson- A doc's view

Dec 7, 2014, 9:10 PM

I'm a pediatrician and certainly no orthopedist but here is my take on the bowl game decision. Risking Watson's health or delaying his treatment and rehab just for a mid-level bowl game doesn't seem worth it. I know that our chance to win is better with him playing, and I certainly want to win as much as anyone else. But I think that the right decision is to have Watson go ahead and have surgery and let Cole Stoudt play his last game as a Tiger and give it his best shot with our awesome fan base behind him. Go Tigers!

I think it's best for Deshaun to have the surgery now instead of later, I know I'd feel that way if it were my son.
And I think the fans will be behind the team--way, way behind them, still back in South Carolina in fact. Just don't see there being a huge demand for tickets with Cole starting. But we'll find out about that part of it when Clemson announces ticket sales and how full the stands are on game day.
But let's remain loyal fans and cheer them on.
Go Tigers!!

Rx of duct taping both legs together and let him bunny hop his way for the W? =)

He needs get 100% healthy before risking long-term issues like you said. And a bit thicker before next year.

Cole could be our hero of the bowl. Who knows these things...

I agree, doc. If we had somehow made the Orange Bowl,

maybe it would be worth it, but for a lower level bowl, l say let's take our chances with Stoudt.

I agree. Let's get Deshaun the surgery he needs and prepare for next season, but most importantly let's support Cole Stoudt at QB no matter how bad he has been this year. He needs the support of the fan base and I know I will be there supporting him and hopefully there will many more Tiger Fans there to support him as well.

How is it risking Watson's health if he plays? The only reason he wouldn't play would be to get a head start on his rehab.

If his ACL is torn, then the knee isn't completely stable. Even with a brace he is more prone to further injury. Maybe ( but not if he was my kid, in my opinion) worth it for a major bowl game, but probably not for this one.

Really the only reasonable option. The end.***

Agreed. The long term health of our players should be our first priority.
