Boss won't tell me when he's planning on doing it.
I wait a day or two, ask boss again when he wants to me to help him.

Hydraulic cylinder drifting. just troubleshooting
Nov 18, 2021, 9:57 AM

the system to determine if the valve stack is bypassing or if the cylinder is bypassing.
It's the cylinder.
Now I have to figure out why some bushings aren't receiving grease from the automatic grease system.
Shouldn't take a few minutes.
Salesman just offered me 4 50 yard line tickets to the game on Saturday. I took the tix, but not sure if I'll go or not.
Had a concrete demo guy come out and quote flat sawing and removing some concrete chunks for a project I'm doing.
Today has been pretty good so far. Most aggravating is that one of the concrete guys didn't bring a hard hat, so I had to go to HR, get the combination to the locker where the spare hard hats are kept, then go get one for him. Involved talking to HR people and walking about a mile.

We just got funding passed for a construction project as well.
Already told to move forward on a different project too.
Then once the funding passed for construction project A, we got told construction project B no longer has the funding and we have to stop all progress on B.
We have already torn down walls etc to prepare for construction project B

lubricating your seals you don't think they're probably shot by now? Probably have a bunch of air in the system too.

The seals are lubricated by the hydraulic fluid. If the valves were bypassing, causing the cylinder to move, that wouldn't cause the seals to wear any more than normal, intentional, movement. No air in the system.
Because I'm bored and maybe one of you autistic persons who is halfway intradested might care...

safety valve in there to maintain pressure in the cylinder so it doesn't drift. Most of the time cylinder drift is caused by seal blow by on the working rod, in which case you A) have damaged seals and B) are losing fluid/introducing air into the system. Granted, I'm used to dealing with pneumohydraulic cylinders.
I once had an unnamed customer outside of Atlanta with 100ton presses that were doing this....For years. Their solution was to put a block of wood in there to hold the tooling up each cycle. I think OSHA hit them with like a $750k fine for that one.

In order of worst way to hold a cylinder to best way...at least IMHO
block center position directional valve
A and B to Tank center position directional valve and pilot to open check valves
Then there's counter-balance valves and double blocking valves. We use those on stuff that is a little more critical.
The item that this cylinder moves has 4 spring loaded, hydraulically released clamps that help hold it in place.
Boss man just handed me $40 cash for not getting hurt last month. Nice.

And now we're adding random surcharge fees to all quotes in an attempt to cover the ever increasing cost of materials, particularly anything that's welded steel. Pricing for custom tooling I quoted less than a month ago is now no longer good. When you figure most of my customers take at least a couple of weeks to get a PO through their system it's really a terrible combination.

right now. could end up costing me a few hundred grand.
luckily I just came from their team so I'm doing all the design work myself. IF we somehow close this deal, I will undoubtedly get a 15 yard taunting penalty for talking some mad #### to my former team about how they're ####### terrible.
the guy I'm having trouble with is very FBCoachSC® - esque. Not very smart, pretty lazy, thinks he know everything...etc, etc.
Mother ###### had the balls to tell me that "...it all pays the same..."
