Why is nobody talking about David Dorn?

Jun 4, 2020, 9:29 PM

George Floyd was in and out of prison. Was arrested for pulling a gun on a pregnant woman during a breaking and entering. Was in Minneapolis smoking Meth when he resisted arrest and lost his life. I 100% agree that he should still be alive and that cop should be charged for murder, which he is. But what about the 78 year old retired police officer (who was black btw) that was shot at point blank range trying to prevent looters from entering a store. That man was killed for a big screen tv. Where’s the memorial? Where’s the news coverage? Where’s the protests for him? The media has an agenda and it’s very clear. ALL LIVES MATTER

Sadly, It does not fit the Narrative of this “Woke” Culture

We also have 95% of the Media that are complicit in Facist/ Marxist Activities! It’s SICKENING!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the media is exactly the problem...

Jun 4, 2020, 11:14 PM

they know how to present it in a way which continues to divide us and make us misunderstand each other. Division gives power.

I urge all people, especially those who consider themselves to be conservative, to take a breath and listen to real voices of our black brothers and sisters behind BLM. Stop being offended and defensive and try to actually listen. You don't have to agree with everything, but try to hear.

Do we really think that the majority of these people do not believe ALL lives matter? Do we really think the majority of these people don't despise the rioting and looting?

We need to take a breath and listen. We can't keep going through these cycles. Don't let the news create your reality.

So if media is the problem (and I am not necessarily disagreeing with you), does Fox News shoulder some of the blame?

Jun 5, 2020, 12:12 AM

I have become disgusted with ALL network and cable news. It seems all news is slanted by an agenda. The mainstream's obsession with Trump has become comical.

Jun 5, 2020, 12:22 AM

All media has been horrible.

But I can honestly tell you that President Trump has saddened me with his actions and words.I don't need CNN or Fox News to tell me how I feel about the man.

Every time I hear speak or see him I think of this:

Romans 16:17

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

My point about the obsession is whatever Trump does drives MSM news.

and on this subject of BLM...

Jun 5, 2020, 12:34 AM

There are others for sure, but this is the verse I'm pointing people to:

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger...” -
James 1:19

Nobody is excusing the violence, but that can be dealt with. We need not be so quick to respond with our "well what about this" and yeah, but this." That's not listening.

A long as you felt the same way about Obama, I'm okay with what you say. Obama was the Great Divider, and made it very clear when he said something racist like "He could have been my son". Basically, Obama made it clear that it was okay for Blacks to lure innocent policemen into dangerous situations where they were killed in cold blood. Those policemen were NOT his sons.

The damage was done by Obama, and the division is so wide that it is hard to repair. I wish Trump, or anyone that follows Trump, all the luck in the world trying to fix this crap.

Fox News went the way of entertainment over the news a long time ago.

How much Breaking News is conceivable in any 24 hour period -- CNN.

MSNBC is as sold-out as Fox News, only a different target audience.

The traditional sources (NBC, CBS, and ABC) are better than those because they aren't trying to keep your attention 24 hours a day. They have their biases, too, (they are people after all), but not sold out like the 3 above.

PBS does the best in my opinion. Left of center, but fair, I think. I notice that they talk a lot less about people and personalities and more about issues. Also, they seem to put more effort into interpreting what events "mean" instead of just reporting things happening.

My 2 cents ...

their totally political agenda. A Black life lost to thugs doesn't do that. It's really simple and transparent. The media is BLM's biggest cheerleader, and doesn't dare criticize or question them.

I don't disagree...

Jun 5, 2020, 9:13 AM

this is a complex issue.

My point is I think people with agendas push our buttons, black and white. They keep us offended. They keep us trying to defend ourselves. They keep their power by keeping us divided.

I am trying to ignore the bait. I do not understand what it is like to be black in this country and never will. But I am listening. I want to validate.

Doesn't mean I am liberal or progressive - far from it.

We have to remove the politics from this.

There is a video with sound showing George Floyd begging for his life and actually dying. I don't understand why you wouldn't think that has a larger impact than other deaths not captured in such a graphic manner and not consisting of 8 or 9 minutes of suffering for all to see. It doesn't mean that the other death doesn't matter just as much. All deaths matter. Be reminded of Eric Garner who died in almost the same manner and was captured on video as well.

Remember George Floyd's death as the time when most of America decided that this must be stopped. NOW.

Let's not let how we feel about the media dominate the conversation. We all saw what happened. No one needs them to tell us anything.

There is video with sound of Daniel Shaver begging police not to shoot him as he desperately tried to comply with their confusing orders and the cops telling him that they would shoot him. Did you ever see anything about it? Probably not, there were no protests in the street for it or anything because it didn't fit the narrative.

Re: Why is nobody talking about David Dorn?

Jun 5, 2020, 9:21 AM

Exactly, because it didn't fit the particular outrage narrative that the press wants to stoke. It was reported and discussed in libertarian outlets like Reason. Here's the coverage from the conservative magazine, National Review

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/police-murder-daniel-shaver/

In Minneapolis, the same force that killed Mr Floyd also killed a woman who had called 911 because she thought someone was being raped. Dropped out the limelight almost immediately, because it was a white woman killed by a black police officer. She was unarmed, barefoot, and in her pajamas when the cop shot her without warning as she approached their car, presumably to tell them why she had called 911.

This was widely covered in libertarian circles, but barely blipped on national press.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Justine_Damond

On July 15, 2017, Justine Damond, née Ruszczyk,[2][3] a 40-year-old Australian-American woman, was fatally shot by a 33-year-old Mohamed Noor, a Somali-American Minneapolis Police Department officer, after she had called 9-1-1 to report the possible assault of a woman in an alley behind her house.

In two years as a police officer, Noor had three formal complaints against him, two of which, as of September 2017, were pending resolution. In a separate case from May 2017, he was being sued for allegedly assaulting a woman while on duty.

Officers Noor and Harrity, after driving through an alley with the lights on their police Ford Explorer off, heard no signs of criminal activity.[27] As the two partners prepared to leave, Noor "entered 'Code Four' into the cruiser's computer, meaning the scene was safe."[27] Harrity would indicate "that he was startled by a loud sound near the squad," and immediately, then, Damond approached the police car's driver-side window.[29] Harrity drew his weapon, but, pointed it downward, did not fire.[30] Noor, however, fired once through the open window, fatally striking Damond in the chest.[27][29] Damond was unarmed and barefoot.[27] The officers attempted CPR to no avail; Damond died 20 minutes later.[31]

Harrity later told a supervisor, "We both got spooked."[27] At Noor's trial, Harrity testified of hearing "something hit the car and I also hear some sort of murmur," and that he feared an "ambush," but deemed it "premature" to use deadly force.[30] Noor testified that he did not see Damond's hand or any object in the hand, but nonetheless believed that his partner "feared for his life" and "there was a threat."[32] At Noor's trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Damond's fingerprints were not on the police car, suggesting she never made contact with it, and prosecutors called two expert witnesses on the police use of force, who testified that Noor's decision to shoot was unreasonable.[33]

Both officers had their body cameras switched off.
