Blazing Saddles Thoughts

I got to thinking about Blazing Saddles today when I learned of Gene Wilder's death.
I must have seen it 500 times by now and still laugh as hard as I did the first time I saw it.
The first time I saw it was the summer of 1974 at the Gloria Theater in Myrtle Beach. I've never laughed so hard in my life. I was in pain I laughed so hard. They probably couldn't make that movie in this day and age given that everything has to be so PC.
Gene Wilder will be missed - no doubt about it.

given that Richard Pryor was one of the main writers for the movie.
Mel Brooks is no racist - he pokes fun at any and everybody. He's Jewish and made a comedy about Hitler, for example.

Exactly. If you can't laugh at yourself then you're taking life a bit too seriously. Mel Brooks is an equal opportunity offender.

Probably the funniest movie I've ever seen. The first 5 minutes probably offends 95% of Americans today.

I bet I could quote the whole movie, other than Heddly Lamar's dictation to Mr. Taggart (Slim Pickens) about recruiting the army.
Probably a whole generation of kids today running around saying "Badges? We don't need no stinking Badges!" without knowing where it actually came from.
