Bilas' assessment of Tigers

Dec 30, 2015, 9:40 PM

Jay says for Clemson to be the team they are capable of being, Grantham has to step it up and drive into the lane more often. In a year and a half now, I can't recall Donte driving into the lane successfully on anything other than a uncontested layup. Tonight, once I say him hover around the three-pt. line dribbling, assessing the defense inside, then step back and put up a three. He also drove into the paint one time and dished it back out. He apparently doesn't think he has the ball-handling skills and strength to take it inside and now he's convinced me. If he is the key to our season, I think we are doomed. I'm not asking him to give up the outside game but the 3 man is supposed to take it to the hoop every once and a while.
Its a shame because I did see good effort and improvement from some other guys tonight.

If he had Blossomgame's athleticism, or if Blossomgame

had Grantham's shooting touch and offensive wherewithal, you'd have one heck of a player. Grantham's fundamental skill set is strong, but he just lacks the athleticism to utilize it at times. Blossomgame has a lot of raw physical ability, but forces up a lot of bad shots and has a poor shooting touch.

Yes, but that player would be Brice Johnson

and he'd go to UNC instead of Clemson. hth.

Traditionally, yes. While we may never recruit at a UNC

level, or at least in my lifetime, we are certainly capable of getting a Brice Johnson every now and then, and recruiting better than we have under Brownell.

Is that a fire Brownlee post?

It felt like a fire Brownlee post.

i wonder about Grantham

Dec 31, 2015, 8:38 AM [ in reply to If he had Blossomgame's athleticism, or if Blossomgame ]

Bilas made a comment last night that went something like "Grantham needs to do more, and he can"

he might be right5

while he's certainly not the athlete that Blossomgame is, i think Grantham has the ability to do more on the court - he could certainly be more aggressive with the ball -

i wonder if it's talent/skill or a lack of confidence?

Good point.***

Its a confidence thing ....

The Lad looks to me, like he's playing "tight" .... he is a "kid", he just needs to believe in himself .... he will come around

I thought the same thing. Grantham looks tight. Or either "not loose." Wonder if he's hitting the weights so much he just stays stiff?

He absolutely must raise the level of his play if this team is to avoid the ACC bottom third.
