The big12 staying pat for now really means

That they are just not sure which avenue to take just yet cause the new playoff system details are still up in the air.
I do not work at the acc office and i dont have any real connections or any cool sources, but i do have a good bit of common sense and intuition and i can tell you that, imo, if the vote is passed to where the sec/big12 can get the four best teams in period, then things are gonna get complicated.
It doesnt really matter how teams faired in the past except where matters of perception are concerned. And perception does matter. For now, most people would agree that there are 2 to 4 power football conferences with the SEC at number 1 for the time being. And that perception is exactly whats needed at this time for the playoff push. I've heard a lot of people saying that there is no way the sEC is gonna expand to 16 right now or even the big 12 for that matter. I think if they get the four best teams in, period, without any ties to the conference championships of each conference, then you will see the 16-team superconferences right away.
The SEC will want not just ratings either but the strongest teams possible. Which opens lots of possibilities. Conferences, with the current perception of strength will want to add teams that will lesson the likelyhood of that perception changing anytime soon. Stronger perception and likelyihood of getting in the playoff means better recruiting, bigger tv deals, etc.... and basically a long time at the top. So conferences will eb scrambling to get strong as fast as they can. And you will see the conference championship games disappear under the excuse of , welll... the playoff makes the season to long when in actuallity, they just dont want to see there two strongest teams playing each other at seasons end. Two teams or 3 in would make for big bucks in the playoff.
Now, if the playoff takes champions into strong consideration, well, then u will see another trend. The big xii wont probably expand unless they absolutely have to and everyone will want that championship game. Why not? Only one would go anyway, might as well add the extra income. Bank on it. The decisions made concerning this playoff are huge, it will carry great weight. If they strongest four teams get in, I see the big xii going after clemson and fsu hard. And to be honest, I see the SEC coming after them too. Casue i9t wont just be about ratings , imo, at that point, but strength, and lets face it, unless u are rading and bringing in a m,ichigan or something, you will want and FSU or Clemson. A loss to these teams dont look so bad. You sure aint gonna bring in Louisville??? Why?
So... if you want to stay in the ACC, lets hope you get a championship in, otherwise, if you want out.... the best four team senario will most likely make that happen. The big xii will be calling. And the SEC might head them off by doing exactly the same. The may certainly take a Clemson then just to stop the big xii.

Saying they are happy at 10 make them look good and not stealing teams. Mid to late june we will hear Fsu say we are looking into other options and Clemson will say the same soon after.

theorig,I think you have nailed this one! I see it the same way. However the Championship is decided dictates how the conferences will line up.

I have heard that early July is when things will start to happen as far as public announcements are concerned.

I agree with your logic.

The SEC is my first choice, but I think the Big 12 is the most realistic option. If we stay in the ACC, then I will...
1) Cry 2) Delete T-net and all of the other Clemson websites from my favorites 3) Devote my time to other hobbies, like hunting and fishing.
Seriously, if we stay in the ACC, then the next five years will be like last weekend played over and over and over.
