Big XII debate is about Eyeballs and not Footballs!

I’m avid Clemson football fan for 24 years. All of my friends and work associates often call me when they are having questions or want to share opinions about Clemson football. Many of the discussions I have had or have heard on the talk radio is, “Clemson will lose more games in the Big Xll.” I then remind everyone. The question is not “What conference should Clemson join to win more games?” The question is “What conference should Clemson join to make their entire athletic program completely solvent and a viable competitor in the ever escalating college football arena.” Everyone knows all the other sports are pretty much dogs to the athletic budget. Football pays the bills.

Current ACC money is $17M.

New potential money, as I see it, looks like this:

$20M payout to all Big 12 member currently.
$2-$3M increase per team if Clemson and FSU joins Big 12.
$2M for the Big Xll Championship game.
$3M for the new Bowl with the SEC.
-$2M for additional travel expenses.

Going to Big Xll would be, conservatively speaking, a minimum payout of $27-30M or $10-13M or 60-70% more than we currently have with the ACC. THIS DOESN’T INCLUDE ANY POTENTAIL 3rd tier rights either! We could potentially get a leg up on USuC by showing the Clemson/Ball St. games on TV where USC can’t do this in the SEC.

If the number was only a couple of million more, then I’d say forget it. It appears to me this whole Big Xll decision is an easy one.
