any thoughts on the Masters yesterday?

Apr 10, 2015, 9:15 AM

Speith was unbelievable... but there's a lot of golf left. I think there's a lot of guys that can win this thing, including Phil and Rory.

I will be interested to see what number is the lead after today. It's a lot for a young kid to shoulder, so i'll be interested to see how Jordan responds.

What about Tom Watson? Incredible.

Tiger Woods looked like he may be making strides. I would expect him to finish around even or -1 today, based on what I saw yesterday.

There are a lot of young guns out there that can flat out play. Spieth can do it all. He can win it if he can hold it together through 4 rounds. He couldn't last year. Not a Tiger fan, especially after he threw out a GD yesterday on national television. I like Phil but he is 44 now. Don't know if he grind it for 4 days.

Might be a little too windy for tiger towards the end of his round. I expect him to MC

Tiger has more cameras on him from every angle and every shot than anyone else in the history of the game... heck, probably more than all other players combined.

Not an excuse, and I'm no fan of what he says... but I would wager others let more fly than him.

so he shood or shood not be aware?

Apr 10, 2015, 9:36 AM

idc, but he doesn't either.

I agree.. there was a time when he didn't care at all...

Apr 10, 2015, 9:49 AM

but i think he's trying to be more aware now... i do think it's hard to do it all the time, especially when you are that competitive.

like i said... i'm not a fan of the actions... but I do think he's trying to be more aware

more aware? does that mean he's worrying about cameras

Apr 10, 2015, 10:06 AM

and not the course? that's probably not good?

The fact that the cameras ARE still on him is what

is sort of ridiculous.

I know the TV folks are absolutely desperate for him to become a factor again, but ... really.

I was impressed by Ernie Els....

Apr 10, 2015, 9:36 AM

He's still got game

That said, I though Speith was the favorite coming in based on how well he played over the last three tournaments (a win and two runner-up finishes).

I will be there tomorrow for Round 3 (Moving Day).

Big Ernie doesn't get through the ball the way he used to...

Apr 10, 2015, 9:54 AM

Leaves some weight on that back foot which, especially on those uphill shots can lead to some big misses to the left. That said he played a heckuva round yesterday. He did win a major just less than 3 years ago at the British, but that was due more to the fact that Adam Scott bogeyed the last four holes to give it away.

if he can, maybe he'll be in a position to let augusta take care of the rest?

I think he's always had a tendency to hang back slightly, but he may do it more now than in the past.

Ernie is hitting it well today. Center of fairways and hitting all greens. Already at -6 in sole possession of 2nd.

in tournaments like the US Open and The Masters, but seeing Ernie win would be pretty cool.

As was I . Great to see him play well, PUTT well and smile.

Shooting 67 will do that.

And--See you there tomorrow. I will be the old guy, orange shirt, orange topsiders, usually camp out behind 7 green.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm sure I'll see you there...

Apr 10, 2015, 10:00 AM

I don't typically sit in one place. We pretty much walk around all over the place. When I do sit, it's ususally in the stands to the right of the 15th green so I can see No. 16 as well or in the stand behind the No. 12 tee box so we can also see the approach shots and putts on No. 11.

Can't I watch one year of this event without having to hear a grown man cuss? Kids could be watching. Not cool.

Tom Watson is a golfing marvel

The under 30 group of players worldwide is as big a group and as good a group as ever before.

Lastly, The Suits of Augusta will see to it nobody else shoots 64 this week. Jordan's round was in fact incredible and the Members dont like to see somebody make their track look like the Bob Hope Classic. The greens will be dried out by the sub-air, pins will be placed on the sides of impossible and if anyone starts hitting it sideways, expect some big numbers today.

taking and many did - was yesterday a record for 1st round scores under par?

i imagine they'll let the greens firm up over the next 3 days. that's when the fun begins for reals; better rides and more fun than the county fair.

QOTD

tom watson on his round: "Old age and treachery," Watson said to explain his score. "I played the golf course enough times to know where I'm supposed to hit it and where I'm not supposed to hit."

rip seve, yesterday would have been his 58th bday.

like the forecast is projecting, scores will be all over the map (good and bad).

Was also impressed with Jordan's round... Mainly the recoveries!

I think Jason Day will be the one to pressure Jordan this year. Hes always around the top at the Masters and this may be the year for him.

I predict Els to stumble, but would be a great story if he doesnt. I dont think Rory or Phil will make a significant run and I do expect one of the "B" list guys to be there (Henley, Haas, Simpson etc)

For me, this is the one tournament where I just love to see everyone do well. Its probably a respect for the course where you know the guys are giving it everything they have.

The surrounds don't seem to be cut as tightly as usual. That makes the short pitches play a lot easier.
