Just wondering with all the sideline WR screen plays we

Nov 14, 2014, 8:14 AM

throw in a game, why is fake pump or just a shoulder turn not used and then hit a streaking wide open player down the middle? The safety and the CB are jumping everyone of those throws to the outside leaving a lot of open space,Fast forward to

the 1:56 and watch how easy it is done to perfection https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irl-QGDdQdg.

i honestly believe it's because Chad isn't a good playcaller

Nov 14, 2014, 8:17 AM

He has some good moments, but he is not a consistently good playcaller.

Careful, careful, careful. They'll start with their "coot" calling.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

except that he has called this play this yr a few times

Nov 14, 2014, 10:15 AM [ in reply to i honestly believe it's because Chad isn't a good playcaller ]

vs wake and I think the td throw against Syr in the second half was a screen fake where the would be blocker faked the block and continued the route to the endzone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

nc st game was just a wheel to te out of backfield

Nov 14, 2014, 10:24 AM

not fake screen, but the one I mentioned below against wake was a fake screen that was incomplete

and why the heck do we run the wheel route only once a year?***

Nov 14, 2014, 8:25 AM

Spurrier will abuse the wheel route against us because thst is one of the few plays our defense struggles with.

I don't think we had a QB the past several weeks that could

Nov 14, 2014, 8:23 AM

throw that throw well enough to trust it. I am a Cole Stoudt fan, but his deep and intermediate ball is not very good. Heck, his short passes are an adventure at times. I could see DW throw that very fake, and deep on a wheel or double move in the first quarter this weekend.

We did something similar to a fake screen deep ball to Humphries last year against Cuse, seems like we would run it more. But you also have to have solid pass protection and time to throw the football for that play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Big difference was Sammy.

Nov 14, 2014, 9:08 AM

During those deep balls to Humphries, Sammy was hanging out in the backfield striking fear into the hearts of the defense. We don't have anyone who is as big of a threat to use as a decoy. Scott is getting there though.

I agree on the pump fake to the sideline screen and then hit the blocking WR down the field for a big gain.

Nov 14, 2014, 9:16 AM

Yeah that's true, we lack that home run threat we've been accustomed to having. But yeah Scott is coming along rather quickly in that roll, hopefully everything will just open back up for the wideouts this week now that we are alil more healthier.

E have ran that play a couple of times with stoudt but never a completion, say what you want but if your QB can't complete then why run it's like doing the same thing and getting the same results doesn't make sense

Nov 14, 2014, 9:19 AM

All of our plays are supposed to be serial in that way. Every short throw and motion is supposed to have an accompanying deep option or wide open check down that can go for 10-15 yards.

Remember, this whole offense was conceived to be a shotgun version of the triple option. Creativity and busting the big gainer is supposed to be what drives the thing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The shotgun version of the triple option is what Auburn and

Georgia Southern do. We run the screen/draw/wildcard triple option.

Nov 14, 2014, 10:47 AM

What Chad seems to want is an Erhardt Perkins. Except when DW isn't in the game the intermediate and deep throws set up off the runs and short passes aren't there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ran that vs Wake, Cole threw a bad pass to a wide open

Nov 14, 2014, 10:06 AM

WR or TE. Would have been a td. I think it was 3rd or 4t qtr. I was excited cause like you I had been waiting for this wrinkle. Unfortunately, it didnt work out, maybe DW can make the throw.

Nov 14, 2014, 10:39 AM

People wanna blame Chad but Cole is a lack of arm talent and decision making really limits playing calling. I for one am more made the coaching staff let us get this bad at the qb postion. Sorry but Cole was the worst qb I have ever seen start at Clemson that includes will poor he could at least run with the ball and had a decent arm.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we've run that several times... we also

Nov 14, 2014, 10:39 AM

run the same action with the slant/wheel with the back out of the backfield...

not as much with Cole, but we've typically called a version of that when we have one of our TEs down the sideline

I apologize, I respect Cole and guttiness and his desire but truth be told he sucks #alls he tries hard and does the best he can just the talent isn't there, our qbs were set up great worth Kelly Watson and Stoudt but we ask know how that turned out

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We're saving it for the Coot game.

Shhhhh, don't tell Slurrier.
