ETN and I dont think its very close. Travis was a much more natural running back than CJ whether between the tackles or outside the tackles. CJ was probably more explosive from a special teams and receiver stand point however.

either.... and it does not matter. ETN had better stats, CJ has to do more to lift the team. For me, ETN has both the better stats and only played 1/2 the time. Eek. However, no one did more to lift Clemson in the late 00s than Spiller. Without Spiller in 2009, Dabo would not have had a chance to survive 2010.

The jury is still out. Gotta see how ETN does in the big first but I'm leaning CJ. His ability to make people miss was special. There were occasions when more than one defender didn't lay a hand on him in a phone booth.

Behind the same line, ETN running and CJ receiving and returning kicks. Two different styles.

It’s honestly about preference. I for one would take Spiller because he was a lot more versatile. But as a pure RB. I’m taking ETN.

It’s CJ for me.
ETN couldn’t make people miss like CJ could and he wasn’t the same receiving threat. ETN played in a more friendly offense that allowed him to showcase his abilities more than CJ. Plus, CJ never played with an elite QB. ETN had 3 years with Trevor.

Our lines from 2017-2019 were serviceable but not great, and the 2020 line was worse than anything Spiller played behind.
Also, Spillers lines weren't even that bad. The 2006 (in particular) and 2007 lines were pretty good. The biggest issue with most of CJs teams were the lack of a good passing attack to open things open more for him.

Both were great. ETN had better stats at RB. I would have liked to see Spiller with the supporting cast that ETN had.

for everyone saying "ETN and it's not even close"... what's not close was the supporting cast around ETN that CJ didn't have. so, give me CJ... ETN was a truck coming through, but CJ was shiftier, quicker and overall faster.

As someone who enjoyed both - my vote is clearly CJ. Anytime he touched the ball, he was a threat to go all the way. The moves he made were amazing. Not the power of ETN, but sometimes the defense had him, but never were able to touch him.

ETN as the better overall RB but if I had to pick one to watch every day it would be CJ no contest. So much fun to watch

CJ was a touchdown waiting to happen with the ball in space even more so than Travis. Add in the punt and KO returns, and it would be Spiller, by the smallest of margins.

IMO, CJ was the better all purpose back (carries, receiving and returns) when he came to Clemsons but by ETN's Junior year he was even and his senior year he passed CJ.

CJ was a track star that played football. ETN was a true running back. The lower leg power and slight wiggle makes ETN tbe better back. CJ was a highlight, but if it wasnt a 50yd long run there wasnt much there. ETN could carry it 20+ times a game.

I have to go with ETN. My reason is he very seldom had negative yardage and moved the chains. ETN had better vision and power. No doubt CJ could take it 80 yards at any time. ETN had the power, vision and speed. Clemson was blessed to have both of them.

Both turned out to be good receivers. Both were good on Soecial Teams but CJ was great. Running back edge has to go to ETN but never forget CJ's All Purpose yards!

I don't think there's been anyone to come through Clemson and play with the same game speed that CJ played with. It really was a different gear, when he broke open everyone in the stadium new he wasn't getting caught, every time. It really had you on the edge of your seat when the ball was in his hands. However I think Travis was the better every down back.

Spiller was certainly a better return man, but if you are talking about strictly what they could do at the RB position, Etienne was hands down the better back. I don't think that debate is even particularly close. Travis was even devastating catching the ball out of the backfield by the time he left Clemson.

I’d have to go with CJ. He was explosive and so fun to watch. He wasn’t a great NFL back other than one 1,000 yard season.
Nothing at all, against Travis. He was great, too.
