BEST TACKLE OF THE GAME???

Oct 7, 2015, 12:14 PM

FOR CLEMSON – Carlos Watkins fighting off two linemen and stop the two point conversion. (Honorable mention goes to Shaq Lawson when he had Notre Dame’s Kizer in one hand and Adams in his other, then tackled Adams when he finally took the ball).

FOR NOTRE DAME – When two offensive players tacked Shaq as he was trying to get to the quarterback. I know, it was on offense, but still the best tackle they had all night.

I argue Ben "The Beast" Boulware deserves some mention here.

The best thing about that play (other than the outcome)

Oct 7, 2015, 12:22 PM

Was that everyone did what they were supposed to do.

The outside lineman kept the run inside. The LB's filled the gap left by that lineman perfectly, and that left nowhere for the runner to go. And then they all bowed up and kept the QB from lowering his head and reaching for the TD.

I do have to say it would not have been the offensive play call I'd have called for a "one play to tie the game situation" as it left nothing for the QB to do if it was closed up. I think I'd have sprinted him out with a run pass option, because once the contain was there, there was very little chance of that play being successful against this defensive front.

With all due respect, I still think our best tackle was made by our kicker on the opening kickoff of the second half.

What about Lakip?

Oct 7, 2015, 12:20 PM

Definitely the best Special Teams tackle, and certainly one of the best over all.

3 suspended games worth of frustration and lowered the boom on a Domer. We were lucky he wasn't flagged for "unnecessary roughness"!!....:~)

Thought he dropped his head and used crown of helmet.

Should have gone in with his head up to avoid injuring his neck or spine.
