I'm probably in the minority here but I don't have a problem with it assuming we didn't have a trademark. BV spent years at Clemson hammering home this saying to his players under Dabo and I'm sure it's something he believes in. I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to take that attitude with him to Oklahoma including the phrase. I'd assume Dabo is proud to have one of his phrases being used by a former coach at his new job.

Dabo was cute with the Poker chips when it first started. I think “Best is the Standard” as much more original than “All In”. “All In” was already used by a ####load of people in their everyday conversation when Dabo decided to build his church upon that rock.

And even Dabo means being the ‘best you can be’ is “standard” and not always necessarily the best in the country.
Being the best in the country every year is an impossible and unrealistic goal.
Being the very ‘best you can be’ is more reasonable and if the players we recruit and the coaches we hire have the talent and ability, then being the best you can be will frequently result in being the best in the country.

but it doesn't change the fact that it clearly doesn't apply to sports like baseball, volleyball, hoops and tennis. You can't retain a bunch of mediocre coaches and expect the teams to be the best they can be.

Obviously we associate it with Dabo, and I assume Dabo came up with it, but if Brent was the mastermind behind that then it's certainly not unreasonable for him to use it at Oklahoma (even if it does feel that he's copying us).

He used to give out weekly awards for players that made the best block, least missed assignments, etc and he’d always be preaching that best was the standard at everything they did, not just in making receptions.
