Worst case scenario

Jan 9, 2016, 3:03 PM

We lose 10 starters on defense, including all 4 DL starters (Dodd, Shaq, Reader and Watkins), 2 out of 3 LB's (Blanks and Goodson) and all 4 starters in the secondary (Green, Mac, Jayron and Tank). That would leave Boulware as the only returning starter. Hopefully Gallman and Leggett will return on offense.

Look at this tweet from Kirk too:

I'm not gonna say who I think should stay and who should leave. They all have their personal lives that greatly impact this decision (like the fact Dodd will be 24 next year, Kearse has a kid, etc). But just because they declare, doesnt mean everything is gonna be golden for them. I hope some of these guys realize they need to come back next year.

Go Tigers! Beat Bama!

Unless there is family issues involved I don't see green,

Dodd or tank going on defense and I would honestly bet big Carlos is coming back so he can have his stellar season and get the attention of scouts. Blanks hasn't played as much lately but I feel for the guy and don't blame him for going at all. Him and Charone were dealt sh**ty hands and both fought back and contributed in major ways. I don't see us losing really anyone on offense and I would be extremely surprised if gallman or Jordan Leggett left because they're right around that 4-5 round pick area and that's far too big of a risk for players with their talent and abilities to take. Jayron is gone, he won't make it out of the 2nd round and with his size, speed and athleticism he should have an incredible combine and could possibly end up in the first round. Mack is a bit of an unknown and I could see why he would make either decision. The scouts have been more critical of Mack lately (I think it's stupid too) and a few have suggested he might benefit from another year. Personally I don't see how Mackensie Alexander isn't the best CB in college football especially after Vernon Hargreaves kept getting beat like a drum. I think more will come back than people are expecting but Jayron, Shaq and Blanks are the ones that are all but certain to leave early. Dabo has a great track record of getting players to come back and it helping their draft stock tremendously. Especially for players like Dodd and Watkins to see how successful Vic, Shaq and Grady were when they came back.

If Dodd came back, he'd be 25 in his rookie season.

I think that has a big thing to do with his decision. Everything I've heard says Green is leaning on declaring. Kearse's stock has dropped a bit but you can't coach size so I agree on him. I could totally see Tank coming back next year and I think Watkins should as well. Green needs another year as well.

Were you deeply concerned over guys leaving last year?

Jan 9, 2016, 3:28 PM

Their replacements are suiting. Good luck and the very best Clemson love to them all.

All of those guys had to leave, they were seniors.

Jan 9, 2016, 3:34 PM

This year its totally different. I'm with you on the backups, but I wish these guys make the right decision for their future and their families. Cant listen to all your "homeboys" telling you to go get that money when you can easily be drafted in the 7th round or so and cut the next year.

Worse case scenario is we lose big tomorrow night, and you
are worried about who we might lose on defense next season.
Glad we have a coaching staff that is only thinking of Monday night.

Coots have a Sunday night game? Wow!***

Best case scenario

Jan 9, 2016, 4:04 PM [ in reply to Re: Worst case scenario ]

Gibson is a Jayron clone.

We get a 4-5-star CB and S late.

Baker puts on 15 lbs to become a run stopper in addition to an EXCELLENT cover corner.
Tank Stays.
Wiggins dominates.
Shaq Smith or Tre Lamar become freshman All-Americans - along with BIG DEX.
Xavier Kelly dominates like he is in the Army game today.

Van Smith balls out.
Ryan Carter continues with his success.
Fields shines.
Jadar Johnson rules the secondary.
Wilkins somehow improves?

Austin Bryant, Clelin Farell, Yeargin III, LaSamuel Davis play like grow men.

Pagano wrecks havoc.
Watkins stays.
Boulware continues to obliterate opponents.

Cain, Mike Williams, Scott, RMIII, G-Hop, Powell, Trevion, Overton, Renfrow show up and out.

Leggett stays or Garret Williams, JC Chalk, Milan Richards own their roles.

Gallman stays, Choice is back to pre-injury form, Dye improves, Feaster electrifies.

DW stays as is.

OLine improves.

We win by 2+ scores Monday after forcinga few 3-n-outs, going up 2 scores early and not looking back, as we force Coker to beat us through the air, a task which he fails miserably at successfully performing.

Do not worry because we will reload once again just like we did after last season.....talent level is already in place and will not be any different next year.......Go Tigers!!!!

Re: Worst case scenario

That will be a huge amount of talent to replace. I don't think Tankersly, Green, Gallman or Leggett should leave, they could use another productive year to boost their draft stock. Kearse, Alexander, Lawson and Watkins are going regardless and as much as I hope I am wrong, 2 out of 4 won't make it. Unfortunately, this is the way of the sport, I wish guys would stay all 4 years but I am in the minority, I understand that much.

Even if we lose Watkins on Defense that leaves us with Wikens, Pagano, Lawrence, Huggins and others. I think we will be fine.

I keep forgetting about Pagano and Huggins. Yep, we'll be okay.
