Thoughts on SEC rumors

2

May 23, 2023, 8:57 PM

I think the biggest lie is that everyone is looking for different markets and coverage to be successful.

Rutgers, Maryland and Nebraska to the Big Ten. Three markets they wanted and still aren't satisfied.

West Virginia did little to nothing for the big 12 even though it's far away from traditional big 12 schools.

The biggest lie is that Clemson, FSU and others wouldn't matter because they already have the TV coverage. If that were true, Syracuse, Pitt even adding ND mostly would have drawn HUGE emphasis to the ACC not just in football. They don't want top tier teams to compete with the Bamas and UGAs imo. They fear having their brand overtaken.

No one liked when Missouri was going to SEC titles back to back over their beloved UGA, Florida and Tennessee. They want tradition, not competition.

It's coming. Dabo knows he can excel with the 1 or 2 big games he scheduled per year and maintain the weakness that is the SEC bottom dweller group.

I expect Clemson to win more titles than we did in the ACC. In part, because we can continue to play our schedule without having to include SEC/ND for respect. We will compete for playoffs year in and out playing conference schedule and able to schedule weak OOC like the top SEC teams do.

Sounds like you think everything is all good - how about address the other elephant in the room….NIL. We can’t compete in that space no matter what conference we are in

How did I express everything was all good when I'm implying conference realignment is a necessity?

How does Clemson compare to other schools regarding NIL?

May 23, 2023, 10:18 PM [ in reply to Re: Thoughts on SEC rumors ]

It would be interesting to see a ranking of schools.

Because the NIL is sustainable

...in it's current format, and popular?

If College Football is going to survive and thrive the NIL will need to be reigned in. If not, well, television contracts will dry up.

the whole NIL business is going to be addressed by a higher authority than the NCAA; to wit: Congress.

There are too many members of both houses affiliated with schools that aren't SEC or B1G types; secondly, you can believe there has been considerable behind-the-scenes griping, complaining, even screaming over the money discrepancies to those in both houses. Thirdly, the money is going to do the driving...it always does, and Congress will act.

What they will do is anybody's guess, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a wholesale realignment of the conference concept to force four major super conferences with a more even distribution of funds along with stricter (and balanced) use of the NIL.

My opinion is that there will evolve a north, south, east and west type of system; Clemson, I think, will wind up in the SEC along with FSU, perhaps, also Miami and GT. The four P5's will add some programs not now in the P5's; and there will be caps.

So, you lost us in the last statement…

Are your for SEC? Or, B1G? It’s really only a binary choice given the info we have.

It’s a foregone conclusion that the ACC would either have to get ND…and more like that or get out. The latter looks more realistic.

For SEC. Was that hard to grasp? I was saying it would maybe even favor us in schedule with the weak OOC SEC provides.

As in we often include A&M, UGA and Auburn as OOC. How did me favoring the big ten come to confusion?

Wow, that is a dream world. In what universe does competing with Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M just to name 6 compare to competing with FSU, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Wake and Georgia Tech?

In what dream world are you living in? UGA avoids Bama and LSU and has a conference schedule with the toughest being Tennessee, Auburn and Colts. Your favorite team.

Reassess your reply and tell me how hard their schedule is.

It's about TV viewership and not geographic TV markets. Regardless of where we are located, we bring more tv money to the SEC than USC, KY, Vandy, Missouri,.
We would probably bring as much as the mid pack schools. I don't think we bring as much money as Bama, UGA, Texas, or Florida.

Agreed. Outside of Oregon, & Notre Dame

There’s no doubt Clemson and Florida St are the most sought after. Conference’s are looking for passionate fan bases. No one provides that more than the four teams mentioned above.

Those four schools are $$$.

Hopefully we join the SEC by 2027!
