Dabo ain't the same guy we grew to love

Nov 28, 2022, 9:20 PM

You can check my post history and see that I have always been a huge fan and supporter of Dabo.

But in the past couple of years when faced with adversity and hard questions he just isn't the same likable guy. He comes off as arrogant and he constantly gaslights fans who question anything about the team or their performance.

I guess he built it so he can do with it as he pleases, but everyone sees the downward trend.

I want 2009 Dabo back. Fire, grit, fun, and hungry. He reminds me more of Saban now.

He may be waiting on the Bama job or its just gotten stale for him. The gusto just aint there like it used to: BYOG, ALL IN, ROY BUS…

and he knows everything and it's his way or the highway.

Sad to see this side of him as his legacy is slowly crumbling year by year.

His big mouth partly caused the beat-down of TL16 & pretty good Clemson Team by Buckies in CFP when he voted them out of top 10, imho.

Perhaps, but in that case, Dabo’s reasoning was sound.

Nov 28, 2022, 9:42 PM

O310 St had only played 6 games I believe while others had played a full schedule. They didn’t deserve to be in the playoffs.

They whipped Dabo and Clemson unmercifully that night.

I hope this is sarcasm Bill it’s not letting me you to post something like this and mean it. Wasn’t DW our QB in 2016? TL was 18 and 19’s NC games.

The appears the Roy Bus broke down and Dabo is no mechanic…..and it appears this time he does not have a clue on how to fix it… money, arrogance, and pride can be terrible things and very hard to overcome!

Re: Dabo ain't the same guy we grew to love

Nov 28, 2022, 11:36 PM [ in reply to Re: Dabo ain't the same guy we grew to love ]

Since 2020 there have been major changes in college football. These changes will benefit the haves. Teams like Clemson will need new revenue sources.

Maybe from 2009 to 2022 he has gained much more confidence since he has accomplished more than any other HC in Clemson History. Maybe he needs that edge to continue competing with other top programs.

He has also had to protect and support his coaches and players. Since the LSU loss there has been a lot more negative post. And many of them have been very spiteful.

Would fans be happier if we went back to being a program hanging out with the other ranked teams somewhere between 15 and 25 playing in an an average to above average BG.

What’s is it that you expect from Dabo, his staff and the kids who make up the Tiger football team.??? List your year expectations you feel Dabo should give fans every year???

It would be a long wait. Alabama won't hire Dabo.***

Do you think before you post or do you post all hyped up with emotions.???

I doubt Dabo just signed a 10 year contract extension with Clemson that has a pretty high Bama buyout clause just to be going through the motions at Clemson while waiting on Saban to leave Bama in the next 3 to 6 more years.

Where is your logic? Even though my emotions want to give you a TD to further hurt your Tiger pluse of 82% but that not who I am.

Have you changed in 13 years ? I am very in happy with the last two years but I think Dabo is still the same guy… he tried this experiment with the staff and I have full faith if it doesn’t work out he will change it … and that may be a little more work to get back to where we were but there’s no guarantee if we went out and hired the biggest OC/DC name in the business at the time we still aren’t in this same exact spot , can’t argue that … we really still have a very solid program with some guys in the secondary that need to grow up … and we need a total overhaul at the WR position except for Williams, and maybe Randall when he’s healthy… that position is horrible compared to what we are used to … but do has dj but I’ll say I feel pretty confident we are just trying to get through this year with him and he’s gone , just my gut feeling … everyone knows deep down dj is not the guy to lead this program where we wanna be

Point is Dabo loves Clemson just as much now as he did back then and to think otherwise is absolutely insane and really a stupid uninformed comment… the man will fix it do you think he enjoys what he’s seeing …. We tried something jt didn’t work he will fix it

Please just give it a rest for a few days. Your constant complaining is not helping the situation. We all understand your feelings in this matter and we surely don’t need to hear them everyday ad nauseum.

It is here for exactly these types of discussions. If you don't like my posts all you have to do is not click on them. Simple solution.

Seriously, message boards are meant for discussion between fans. What I post has zero bearing on anything.

This poster seems quick to judge with limited information.

Nov 28, 2022, 9:34 PM

Speculation? Perhaps let things play out and see what additional information comes up?

Might be right but seems premature to paint oneself into a corner.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I simply stated my opinion

Nov 28, 2022, 9:38 PM

based on what I personally see in interviews, etc about Dabo and his attitude being different than what we have been accustomed to. How is that judging or painting myself into a corner?

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s cool. Almost impossible not bounce into drawing conclusions.

Nov 28, 2022, 11:09 PM

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He’s the same guy you describe now as in 2009.

Nov 28, 2022, 9:36 PM

He was saying the same stuff because we were grumbling about losing to USC every year, going 6-7 after losing to USF, etc.. He seemed arrogant then, but he went out and found Morris to fix the O and Venables to fix the D and, voila, he was now lovable, goofball Dabo who finds fun in the winning.

That Dabo in 2009 was a totally different guy….humble, hungry, and did not have more money than he ever knew what to do or spend it own…..success, money, and power will change nearly anybody…..and it is hardly ever for the better….I think that is were we are with Dabo unfortunately!

Exactly, it's not a condemnation of Dabo. All the top coaches that have had big success and big contracts develop a level of arrogance. He's not special or different in that regard. And he will eventually figure it out with about two more losses to the chickens and their portal talent. He will be forced to make changes or become a caricature. Hope he gets it turned. I can't stand losing to the chickens on a regular basis.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Uh, Tnet isn't the same as it was in 2009 either.

Nov 28, 2022, 10:14 PM

We backed Dabo in a corner trying to tell him how to do his job. Now, if any of us had the credentials, and audience with Dabo, to explain why we know more than him because of our HCing experience he might listen.

He would be a fool to give ear to our wants and wishes without checking our resume's.

Re: Uh, Tnet isn't the same as it was in 2009 either.

Nov 28, 2022, 10:19 PM

Resumes apparently didn’t matter when hiring his last 2 coordinators….because they sure is he!! would not have gotten those jobs if it did!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No one has told Dabo how to do his job, and perhaps that’s part of the problem.

Nov 28, 2022, 11:48 PM [ in reply to Uh, Tnet isn't the same as it was in 2009 either. ]

Dabo needed someone to tell him earlier this year that he’s a moron if he promotes three unqualified coaches to be coordinators.

He needed someone to tell him that the transfer portal isn’t necessarily all bad.

And now he needs someone to tell him that he’s coming across as an annoyed, arrogant coach.

This is how dynasties crumble and never recover.

I guess you are the same person you were 12 years ago. What if your employer came to you and evaluated you weekly and took suggestions from social media.?? He still is excited energetic and puts his heart and soul into Clemson Football.

Some of you try to remember you built him into a football god! Now after all that success you are upset because he changed. We all change.

I will still take Dabo over any other Coach in football. What he has done for Clemson IMO will never be duplicated by another coach.

Some of you have forgotten it’s just a game. For some it seems like it’s life or death every Saturday. Also many fans were happy with a 10 win season and a really good BG. What do those fans expect now??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nov 29, 2022, 5:31 AM

and entitled fans that aren’t excited about winning anymore. Reality is that Clemson (nor any team for that matter) is not going to make the playoffs every single year. Instead of focusing on the wins and all the great accomplishments over the past 14 years, the vocal minority comes out to roast him once the team loses a game. I can remember those days sitting in the The Valley just wishing we could win 5 games a year. Clemson really has it great right now and there is only so much criticism one person will allow themselves to take. He’s defending what he’s built and when it is no longer appreciated, he will take his resources elsewhere.

You think now is bad, just wait until a new coach comes in and 8 wins becomes the norm again. . .remember, it took 19 years for Clemson to recover from running Danny Ford off.
