I've got a Tiger by the tail it's plain to see.
And, I won't be much when he gets through with me.

FSU is at least one year ahead of my schedule.

I thought it would be year after next at the earliest when FSU might be competitive with Clemson. Looks like we will be next year.

But, a big word of caution to me.

Norvell has done a masterful job with the portal. FSU has a boatload of starters (including our best players on both sides of the ball) who came through the portal. Two big concerns:

1. That puts you dependent on the portal. (It's like recruiting 10 JUCO guys every year. You get on that bus and its hard to get off.)
2. Can you hit a homerun every year in the portal? Can you bring in a couple of NFL 1st or 2nd rounders every year along with 4 or 5 other guys who are solid starters?

I have my doubts. No one knows how this portal is going to affect football over the next few years. I'd much prefer getting 22 kids out of high school and 2 or 3 in the portal.

But, Norvell gets paid a heckuva lot of money to figure it out.

When we had Cliff Ellis as our basketball coach, he recruited Juco players heavily. The result was they were not quite ACC ready or meshed with the team their first year, but many played really well their second year and then they were gone. It made for a real up and down ride. We had some very good teams at times but struggled in between.
