BCS could be a mess in this final year.... no one is talking

Sep 30, 2013, 10:38 AM

about Oklahoma...

All the talk about Oregon, SEC champion, OSU, etc... Oklahoma toughest remaining game is at Baylor. If they run the table, they are in the mix.

They have no championship game, so that could be interesting.

You could have an undefeated Clemson, Oregon, OSU, and Oklahoma...

and a one loss SEC champion... who, if UGA, would have an argument against everyone but CU.

They would basically have to jump Ohio St.

Sep 30, 2013, 10:43 AM [ in reply to I see a 12-1 UGA above everyone but Clemson, Oregon, ]

Would an SECCG win be enough to do that? There's a fairly wide gap between OSU and UGA at the moment.

The way I'm envisioning it will be an undefeated Bama or

So yes, I think that game would vault them to above everyone but the three I listed.

I don't know what WOULD happen, but what SHOULD happen,

Sep 30, 2013, 11:12 AM [ in reply to They would basically have to jump Ohio St. ]

in my opinion, is that no undefeated teams in the ACC, Big 10, Big 12 or PAC-12 should be jumped by a one-loss team from anywhere. MAYBE over Louiville, but none from any of those "Big 5" conferences.

If we were lucky enough to go undefeated this year and got jumped by any one loss team, I'd give up on college football.

I believe Bama and Oregon will stay 1-2 if undefeated...

Sep 30, 2013, 10:40 AM

Doesn't matter how many other are undefeated. Now, if one of them falls, then you open it up to Clemson, Ohio St., Oklahoma, etc. An undefeated Clemson would be the class of those, IMO, and I think the polls would bear that out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson would jump an undefeated Oregon.

Sep 30, 2013, 10:42 AM

If we don't do the jump after beating a top 15 South Carolina on the road, it'll be after beating a top 15 Miami in the ACCG.

It will be close on the computers. Human polls

Sep 30, 2013, 10:47 AM

will have a clear demarcation between the two, IMO.

According to my ratings, Oregon's current SOS is 39, Clemson's is 17. Their remaining schedule? Oregon's is #2, Clemson's #20.

The PAC-12 utterly dominating OOC play will be an enormous boost to Oregon and their SOS.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It really depends on what FSU, SCU, and the coastal champion

If all three of those remaining games are against top 10 opponents, we could jump them...

that would be 4 top 10 wins

Sep 30, 2013, 10:55 AM

The computers don't know "4 top 10 teams". Human polls take into account things like that, but in the computers, the PAC-12's depth is going to be a boon for Oregon, IMO.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think your ratings have enough games to make the

Just looking at the two schedules between Oregon & Clemson and Clemson's looks significantly more difficult.

Re: No way. Oregon is higher in human polls, and will have

Sep 30, 2013, 10:58 AM [ in reply to No way. Oregon is higher in human polls, and will have ]

I think it would be closer than you think. (According to current rankings)

Oregon would have wins over #15 Wash, #12 UCLA, #5 Stanford, and the Championship over #12 UCLA, or #22 ASU.

Clemson would have wins over #5 UGA, #8 FSU, #25 MD, and #13 SC, as well as probably over #14 Miami

5 UGA = 5 Stanford
8 FSU > 12 UCLA
13 SC < 12 UCLA (fairly equal)
14 Miami > 15 Wash (fairly equal)
25 MD

Human polls are a toss up but 2 wins over "The Great" (sarcasm) SEC is solid, and it's just a popularity contest at that point.

BCS will like our ranked wins just as well or better so that would be a really interesting scenario.

Obviously all speculation at this point, but we'd have pretty similar resumes

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why are you only counting 4 games for each team?

Sep 30, 2013, 10:59 AM

Each team would play 13 games. That's the point I'm getting at. Oregon's games 5 through 13 will be a lot better than Clemson's.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I see what you are saying, and I agree....

Sep 30, 2013, 11:01 AM

it just depends on how the conferences shake out. The best thing for Clemson is for the ACC to finish strong outside of everyone losing to CU.

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

destroys teams. Undefeated Oregon is a lock for the national championship.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree... but I still contend, at the end of the day....

Sep 30, 2013, 10:43 AM [ in reply to I believe Bama and Oregon will stay 1-2 if undefeated... ]

a one loss UGA has an advantage over an undefeated OSU, and maybe OU... but only UGA.

They would have not loss since week one, and would have beaten SCU, LSU, and SEC West champion.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

Sep 30, 2013, 11:03 AM

I don't see anyone on those schedules that will do it. Uga will not beat Bama...they don't have the D to do it this year. Stanford will get killed by Oregon. The good part is the sec isn't gonna win the nc this year. Bad part is we could be on the outside looking in even if undefeated. The bcs sux.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think LSU beats Bama this year

Sep 30, 2013, 11:06 AM

Stanford vs. Oregon will be interesting...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Stanford was supposed to get killed by Oregon last year

Sep 30, 2013, 11:11 AM [ in reply to Oregon and Bama aint getting beat ]

and then they completely dominated the LoS, flattened the Oregon offense, and won on the road in Eugene. They get Oregon at home this year, why don't they have a shot?

Also, Bama is offensively challenged and has had trouble running the ball at times this year (VT and Colorado St), so teams like LSU and UGA definitely have a shot at beating them.

pretty hard games and some trap games coming up. NCST. was a good win in my opinion, their first conference game at home and everyone wants to win the first so they are not looking up to the top. Lets hope that Stanford drops Oregon. And it would be nice if Oregon St. makes a game of it; hopefully they've got a shot atleast. And I'm assuming Arizona St will play tough in the P12CG.

As for Oklahoma, well OkSt can normally put up points, just as Baylor can. Chuck Reedy has them looking sharp..........wink

Ohio St...meh. Hope they trip up somewhere. We'll fill in the blank with Northwestern. Can't say that with a straight face so lets try Fishigan or B10CG.
