Based on what standard is the claim that the ACC is not the

premier conference in college basketball being made? The elite eight had three ACC teams, no other conference had more than 1. The ACC has two final four teams. No other conference does. Since the year 2000 national champions:

ACC: 9 (One by Maryland a current Big 10 member)
Big East: 6 (One by Syracuse, a current ACC member)
SEC: 3
Big 12: 2
Big 10: 1

Since 2010, the ACC is still the top conference in terms of national championships.

In the last five years the ACC remains tied at the top with two.

No NCAA tournament in 2020 due to Covid.

Based on the “standard” that the typical SEC fan has the IQ of a gherkin pickle and that ESECPN has determined that they can get all those gherkin pickle SEC fans to tune in by telling them the lies that they want to hear.

Have the ACC winning 8 and the Big East 7.

Louisville was in the Big East when they won it in 2013.

The ACC had a BAD and mean BAD like a "coot infestation at an open bar" OOC result. It just seemed like every team just forgot how to play defense and was to busy watching soccer (FYI another sport with TWO ACC teams in the Final Four). Look at UNC getting beaten by Purdue, Tennessee, and obliterated by Kentucky as if they were a DII school. Kinda the same for others. Wake and Miami had weak OOC schedules and dropped to their decent pairings (LSU and Bama respectively). ND did beat Kentucky but also lost about 5 to other mid-power schools. Basically the top third of the ACC entered conference play with about 4-6 losses.

That tainted perspective but as always, the NCAA is how you finish more than how you start.

The SEC made a concerted effort to place themselves at the top of College football. They presented a consistent message through the commissioner, coaches, and media to enforce their dominance. Were they the top conference when the messaging first started or has the message enabled them to take over due to recruiting and generated revenue streams?

The ACC chose to down play football because they were so strong in Basketball. What they failed to do was to promote themselves because they thought the product was enough. The underwhelming TV contract and explanation that basketball was a small percentage should have been the first sign. The NFL makes twice the money of the NBA but that number is still huge. If the ACC pushed ESPN to promote them as the primer conference, like the SEC in football, the conference would have 10 teams in the tournament each year and much higher revenue overall. Instead the football money flowing through the B1G and SEC are making them stronger and allowing them to promote their message.

The standard this year was the misguided coaches and sports writers who overlooked the ACC in the rankings. They learned that crow likely does not taste very good. I hope we have another Champion to add to ACC list but Kansas is really good.
