Exactly the same. Not sure if they do the pool play when they go to main event though.

Way I recall CWS, it double elimination until Championship team are decided. Then the Championship resets to double elim again. I think that is correct.

I just see where it’s 4 and 4 and assumed it was that they play everyone in your group type deal. But seeing we have not been there since JL left I have not kept up with it as much.

only difference between the tow formats is the scheduling

softball does the winners bracket games first while baseball plays elimination games first

Double elimination for first round, best of 3 for second round, double elimination for for final eight remaining teams, then best of 3 for championship.

The biggest difference is softball crosses the pools

It's kinda weird. The loser of the winner's bracket game from pool a players the winner of the loser's bracket in pool b in an elimination game and vice versa. Then the winner of that elimation game completes the tournament in that pool irrespective of whether it was their original pool. I know it's a lot.

The losers of games 7 and 8 switch pools.

I kinda like the crossing pools

makes it more of a full 8 team field rather than two separate 4 team regionals. Also avoids playing a team three times in pool play

Yea pool play is just a money grab imo if you are playing games that in the end mean nothing.

It does make it better if the two best teams somehow make it

May 30, 2023, 4:50 PM [ in reply to I kinda like the crossing pools ]

Into the same pool. This year for example UT might be the 2nd best team in the field behind OU. If the lose to OU in the winner's bracket they switch pools and still have the opportunity to win their way into the championship series with a clean slate.
