Barton, Jones Set to Race World-Class Talent at Miramar Invi

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Laurie Barton and Kameron Jones are set to face some of track and field's top talent on Saturday, April 10, as the two Tigers will compete in their respective 800-meter races during the Miramar Invitational in Miramar, Fla. The meet, set to be held at the Ansin Sports Complex, will primarily host Olympic and World Championship caliber athletes. Barton will race the women's 800m at 1:08 p.m., while Jones will run his 800m at 1:18 p.m.

"We have very high expectations for this meet," said Clemson's Director of Track and Field, Mark Elliott. "It's very rare to find meets like this within the United States at this time of the year. Our goal is to always give each of our athletes the best opportunity to maximize their fitness and potential, so I'm excited to see what they can do."

Barton is one of nine entries in the women's 800m field and will toe the line on Saturday as the lone collegiate athlete. The three fastest women in Clemson history for the indoor 800m are scheduled to compete, as Natoya Goule and Andrea Foster will join Barton in Miramar. Goule is one of the three women's 800m finalists from the 2019 World Championships slated to race in the half-mile this weekend, as Ajee Wilson and Ce'Aria Brown will join Goule in headlining the field. Wilson currently holds the American Record in the event following her personal best of 1:55.61 and has been ranked No. 1 in the world for the event for 85 consecutive weeks, according to World Athletics.

In the men's half-mile, Kameron Jones will be a part of an eight-person field and is the lone collegiate entry. Matthew Centrowitz headlines the event, as the 2016 Olympic gold medalist at 1,500m will make his season debut at the half-mile distance over the weekend. Saturday's field features two athletes, Centrowitz and Andres Arroyo, who competed at the 2019 World Championships, with Arroyo being the lone athlete to have contested the 800m at the meet. Jones and Arroyo have faced one another once already this season, with Jones winning their 800m battle at the FSU Relays on March 26 by running 1:47.49 compared to Arroyo's 1:49.21.
