DJ is a top recruit based on POTENTIAL, not polish/readiness

Sep 26, 2021, 10:13 AM

Our problem is that the two generational QBs were not only based on #1 pick potential, they were also polished freshmen who stepped right in and looked ready. That’s why we threw the term “generational” around. DJ is a standard top pick - lots of potential, but needs good coaching to hone bad habits and improve his technique. Unfortunately, we aren’t providing him that. Our struggles reflect both his lack of readiness (understandable) and our coaches’ lack of ability (To this point at least) to develop him, which is a bigger indictment of them than him

I agree, a real shame and disappointment to come all the way from California to stink, he would’ve been better off to stay home and stink out there. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a Clemson QB with such hype turn out to be such a dud. I don’t like to be overly critical (especially of players) but considering the recent past history for Clemson this is really hard to swallow. Anyway life goes on maybe the coaches can figure out something but right now it doesn’t look too promising. I’ve always said it’s very difficult to reach the top but even more difficult to stay there, looks like that’s what’s happening here ??

Bama also recruited DJ

What if DJ had gone to Alabama? Would Saban have been more successful grooming him?
