Booth interception vs Wake

Nov 22, 2021, 9:52 AM

Just showed it on P&D. There should have been an offensive PI on that as WF guy was all over him early

That whole play was the epitome of "ball never lies".

I still have no clue where the officials saw indisputable evidence to overturn the fumble by Hartman on the previous play.

Hartman's legs never hit the ground because he was on top of Spector.

He placed the palm of his left hand on the ground, which does not make him down.

He also placed the football on the ground which knocked it out of his hand.

The ball touching the ground does not make him down either.

It clearly didn't matter in the long game, but I have no clue why everyone seemed to think there was such clear evidence that the call should be overturned there.

ACC officials are the poster children...

for getting rid of instant replay.

It's one thing to get a play wrong on the field. It's another matter entirely to review the replay and still manage to totally ****-up the call.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Or, perhaps replace them with competent people

Like, say, your average fan?

Whatever it is that leagues required procedure for replay officials, it's obviously too much. Most fans could do better from our couch just watching the broadcast.

Ball hitting the ground in his possession

Nov 22, 2021, 10:48 AM [ in reply to Re: Booth interception vs Wake ]

Is him considered down. That is where the ground cannot cause a fumble comes from. It was the right call.

Wrong... He has to be 'down' for some other reason for that

Nov 22, 2021, 11:11 AM

'ground cannot cause a fumble' to apply.

This is completely wrong.

The ball hitting the ground down not make him down.

The idea of "the ground can't cause a fumble" comes into play when a player's elbow, shoulder, or other part of his body that is considered "downing him" hits the ground causing the ball to pop out.

If the ball touching the ground meant down, then nobody could ever advance a fumble picked up from the ground because the ball would be touching the ground when possession was attained. By your ruling, the defensive player would be down immediately when he grabs the ball.
