Our front 4 is beastly. No doubt. However, I do think we have some question marks at the MLB and WLB positions. Even though Skalski had some physical limitations, he made up for it with physicality, instincts and smarts. It seemed like he and Ben Boulware were clones of each other. It felt like they knew what plays were coming even before offenses broke the huddle. This year Barret Carter is projected to man the middle. He's a completely different kind of dude with his off the charts athleticism. In the past we've had to do some things defensively particularly in pass coverage to hide the weaknesses of Ben and Skalski. We won't have to do that with Carter. He will have no problems staying with RBs, TE or playing the deep middle in a Tampa 2 type defense. He'll give us flexibility that really our defense hasn't had since the days of Stephone Anthony. Understandably as a Freshman last year, you would see Carter sometimes get lost, have bad eyes, or just be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. If Carter can master the defense and develop the type of instincts of our LBs in the middle from the recent past, opposing offenses won't have a chance.

From all I've read, Carter will replace Simpson

Let me address the confusion. I thought Simpson was shifting to the Will. Carter taking over at Sam. Mike position is between McGuire, Bentley, and Trotter. However plays out nice to have options

Well Carter will not play this year and many of front 7 will be gone next year so I don't get the best ever idea. Let's get through this year before we worry about how good we will be next year.
