Attendance for the Citadel.

With limited attendance I wondered what were the smallest home crowds before 9/12. I came up with:

Maryland 1969 22,802 (Frank Howards last game) driving rainstorm

Wake Forest 1973 25,000 the cannon echoed off the half empty visitors side.

UNC 1970 28,914 Don McCauley ran wild (Swofford was the QB) driving rainstorm.

What say ye Tim Burret?

There were a couple of tweets about this around the Citadel game from Tim Bouret and Ross Taylor.

I believe they said the last time Clemson played in front of less than 20,000 fans was back in 1942 or something like that.

There was a home game,,,last year of Hattifield......

forgot who we were playing......pretty sure 1993...at that point ppl had just flat out stopped coming b/c they were over Hatfield. Maybe 30,000 in actual attendance. Sad

I believe that was the Wake Forest game. A little rainy that day and a terrible performance by the Tigers in losing to the Deacs. I would have estimated less than 40,000 fans showed up that day. I told my son that day leaving the Valley that I was done with Hatfield and even though we finished 9-3 that year, he had to be let go!!
