At what point does Oklahoma State part ways with Gundy?

Nov 21, 2020, 10:55 PM

Gundy has been the Ok St head coach for 15 years (since 2005) and has one Big 12 Championship to show for it (2011). He wins quite a few games but seems to always choke when the lights are brightest.

OK State wins conference championships about as often as Georgia wins Nattys. Gundy is OK State's All-Time Winningest Football Coach.

Gundy at Ok State? Historically, if someone is going to win the Big 12 they will have to beat Oklahoma and Texas consistently. Gundy is 2-14 against rival Oklahoma and 7-9 against Texas - losing records to both.

In all fairness, Gundy's dismal record against Oklahoma is well within the historical norm for Oklahoma State versus Oklahoma. However, one would think with the amount of money that T.Boone Pickens dumped into Oklahoma State they would have started at least breaking even in the rivalry game - especially after a coach has been there for a while.

Ok State has never been a powerhouse in football and I guess the fans and administration are happy that Gundy at least wins a lot more games than his predecessors. I just couldn't imagine Clemson hanging on to a guy that went 2-14 against USuC...

winning record. Their rival Oklahoma literally owns them. T. Boone Pickens gave them hundreds of millions of dollars, and it still wasn't enough to get them anywhere close to equal on the footsball field.

Being second fiddle is all they have ever known, so apparently the fanbase is accepting of that, since Gundy just goes on, year after year.
