Before Neff steps in and forces his hand on staff hirings and portal recruiting? I hope things turn around, but if they don't, we cant just sit back and let Dabo kill it bc he built it. Go Tigers!

I think if we win the ACC 3 out of the next 4 years, we won’t see any change. Do I think we will take another small step back if changes aren’t made? Yes…but 10 and 11 win seasons are still great years. Looking at Clemson football, that’s still historically good ball.

10 win seasons were great when there were only 12 games. Your standards have to go up when there are 15 potential games (soon to be 16).

Only 2 teams play 15 games.
Only teams playing for their conference title get a possible 14.

It is a little ironic that now (with the 12 team playoff) when winning the ACC will get us in the playoffs, the ACC challengers are getting better by leaps and bounds.

He's always been about developing young men through football and the college experience.

The only team that I care about is the one where I went to school... I despise the way things have changed, but when disruptions occur you have to make adjustments or you lose ground. While our current teams are accomplishing things, what they are currently accomplishing looks nothing like just a few years back. We talk about accomplishments and how many years in a row we have won this and that. Many teams have climbed the mountain and no one stays on top forever. We are clearly not on top atm even though we have top of the mountain talent... Just hope that we can regain our lost ground and stake our Paw at the top again... Go Tigers!!

Dabo is NOT bigger than Clemson... we have gone undefeated with other coaches in the past and will do so again in the future (probably) with him here and again after he leaves. Many of our current problems exist because of the BOT going along with the ACC death nail TV contract. We get out of that (and the ACC) and Dabo won't have to shop at the dollar tree for coordinators.

That’s the problem with our society. It does not matter what you have accomplished. It is what you have done for me today. With all the success Dabo has brought to Clemson, I would think fans would give him a break. They need to realize Dabo is going to do things the right way. It may take a little longer but the success seems to last longer. Even the great Saban stubbes his toe. Bama missed the playoffs too.

I think after all of his success I think we need to cut him some slack support him as he retools Clemson. He has given Clemson its great st years of success. Yet the first signs of adversity fans turn on Dabo. Especially in a time when maybe he needs to feel that support from the fans. Maybe he needs to feel needed and appreciated.

What we saw last night is what unlimited money can buy, best coaches, innumerable staff, best facilities, and best players.

And Clemson has approximately half the football revenue, fan base, alumni base, far less than half of the NIL type of market base around it than uga has.

What do you really expect for Clemson in an era of "The best team that money can buy?"

2

but poor clemson has no money???

the ONLY thing I'll agree with is that Clemson can't and won't be able to "compete" with the SoCal's/Texas'/Georgia's of the world from an NIL perspective, however Clemson CAN.......if Dabo so chooses compete in top notch staff/salaries & MEANINGFUL portal utilization to backfill early portal exits and/or missing on top recruiting targets, just tweaking those two philosophies of his would go a long way in "righting the ship"............wouldn't solve all problems, but his hires and lack of meaningful portal utilization have been a big detriment to the program downfall from our 2018 peak.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why does our NIL market have to be limited...

1

Jan 10, 2023, 11:50 AM [ in reply to Let me ask you a question given that... ]

I mean heck DJU had a deal with both Dr. Pepper and Bojangles, that's not limited. And you don't think that if NIL had been in place earlier that both Trevor and Travis wouldn't have had big time deals. Talent level is going to dictate deals at national level. But we have 2 international car manufacturers in our state, why aren't we trying to get NIL deals there. Plus there are a lot of major corporations within Clemson's immediate footprint (SC, GA, and NC). Sure you have to compete with UGA, Ga Tech, USC jr, etc. But that's the nature of the beast now. Maybe we should take some of Dabo's 11.5 million per year and hire a marketing team to go after those. It doesn't just have to come from alumni.

I dunno man... Jimbo 2.0 is a bit too far. The most disappointing things is how soft and complacent the whole program feels. The vibes in the Valley have been different the past two seasons as well. I can't quite put my finger on it but something is afoul. Things can be turned around but there is only two or three seasons to make it happen imo. I am worried that the damage may already be done regarding NIL / Portal / Coaching Hires. I agree that Dabo likely hates how the landscape has changed. He is betting that it will be reigned in to an extent. Gotta get the fire and hunger back ASAP.

So if all of a sudden we are missing expanded playoffs or getting crushed in first round - depends if this is acceptable to the masses.

So if we continue to be competitive (make the playoffs more than not with varying degrees of success) but not uber elite -yet have good character kids, family atmosphere, no off field issues, high GPA - is that enough?
