As a big fan of Clemson traditions and the homecoming game..

Feb 19, 2021, 3:25 PM

I can not wait to see the Founders Federal Credit Union float on Bowman this year. I will be the guy looking at all of the floats, while drinking an ice-cold Coca-Cola, presented by Coca-Cola. Later in the day, I'll be cheering as the team runs down the SC Education Lottery Hill into the stadium.

I worried for the longest it would eventually be the Bi-Lo Stadium but zero chance of that now since they will be no more this spring.

Wow, what is happening to Bi-Lo?

Feb 19, 2021, 3:39 PM

They have been an upstate fixture for decades.

The banner is being dissolved. Many of their stores in SC were acquired by Food Lion.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks, it seems that their quality and cleanliness has really declined.

Feb 19, 2021, 3:53 PM

I haven’t been in one of their stores in years, but the last time I did, it didn’t seem great.

I assumed that their standards have declined over time, but maybe it’s more than other, nicer stores with a nicer shopping environment have moved in.

Some BiLo stores are being converted to Lowes food. They are hanging banners over their signs with "BI" in red and "LO" in green for the transition.

Yes about 5 of them in the state will become Lowe's Foods. I thought that signage was clever too. Lowe's Foods is great with their branding. Really like their stores. The majority of the S.C. Bi-Lo stores are converting to Food Lion or probably closing though.

that they are found on the wrong side of the tracks in North Carolina cities and towns. Perhaps there are some nice Food Lions, but those are rare.

The only Lowe’s Foods I went in was in Myrtle Beach about a dozen years ago, and remember it being a nice store.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

Never heard of Red Lion. What is it?

Yes they were pretty basic back in the 80's and 90's but they have upped their game. I have been in some nice ones in Charlotte and the lower part of the state. Pretty good prices too. I look at them now as the alternative to Wally World -more convenient, faster and less hassle. Lowe's is very nice but like Publix on the pricey side.

I am ancient enough to remember that when they first came

Feb 20, 2021, 9:59 AM

in around here, they were called Food TOWN, which was changed later to Food LION. Neither ever made much sense to me.

Yep...

Feb 20, 2021, 10:10 AM

I can remember them pulling “Town” off the building and replacing it with “Lion” on a store near me before it even opened.

I remember when it was Food Town. Think their was confusion with another chain hence the change. That "griffin" looking lion is the symbol of their corporate parent Delhaize. I always though it was a cool looking logo.

Food City in E.Tenn, Kentucky and Va is not related to them but was similar to the Food Town name too.

In my neck of the NC woods, Food Lion is not so nice. Lowes, on the other hand, is awesome. They have nice stores, good delis, and, most importantly, a GREAT beer section - local, regional and national microbrews. They even have a "bar" where you can fill growlers or have a drink while you shop. Heck, my son's band even used to play there on Thursdays. We are talking high brow, baby!

The parent company is HQ'd in my hometown, so I consider it my local store. Y'all come.

At least the 60’s because I remember the Cow on top of the store and the Guard sitting behind the customer service area with a shotgun. Back then BI-LO was never robbed.

Going to miss BI-LO. Unfortunately Publix provide such excellent customer service they taking everyone’s customer’s. This comment made from a guy a The Fresh Market.
