Some of you SEC fan girls need to get over yourselves.

Jul 29, 2021, 2:30 PM

This fawning over all things SEC is disgusting.

Stop listening to ESPN.

Stop watching SEC Stories on the SEC Network.

Stop acting like the SEC is the only real football conference.

Stop worrying that Clemson is going to become irrelevant if we aren't in the SEC.

Just stop.

I hate the SEC as much as anyone, but I can see at least two scenarios where Clemson would have no choice but to join.

So while I think for the moment we (Clemson) are in a good position, that could turn on a dime depending upon what the BIG does in the next weeks.

Agree to a point and gave you a +1 to prove it but

I am a pessimist by nature, and until a few more blanks get filled in, I will be nervous. I certainly don't worship the SEC, but if at some point the ACC is untenable for us, then the SEC is our only real option. And we have been a thorn in the SEC's side for the last 10 years. If they keep growing in numbers and influence, they eventually get to pick the winners and losers, and we could be left on the outside looking in, for nothing more than spite.

I want us to stay in the ACC, and to keep every single team currently in the conference, and find a way to make the ACC a player. I love the ND/PSU possibility, but if the SEC for whatever reason comes along and adds FSU and UNC but not Clemson, the game is over for us.

As I posted a day or two ago, the waiting is the hardest part. Change is coming; I just wish I knew what changes I had to start getting used to.

Waiting/hoping for ND to make up its mind is not a strategy. And frankly, ND is already aware that if they don't join, several things will be set in motion that will more or less kill the ACC.

Adding WV or some small-footprint G5 school to the ACC makes no sense for the conference's long-term health or survival.

What will likely happen is that the BIG will engage in an arms race and soon go after some of the ACC's top brands. At that point, Clemson will have no choice but to either a) join the SEC as part of a package deal or b) join the BIG.

Hope to God that waiting is not the ACC's strategy

Jul 29, 2021, 3:05 PM

But waiting is my only option, as I have no role in the decision making for Clemson or the ACC. I agree that it appears unlikely that ND will ever join the ACC, and if that is the case, then we likely have no choice except to find another conference home. Given the two that you mentioned as options, which seems like a better fit to you? To me, it is very clear. But then that puts us at the mercy of the SEC, and what do we, as another football school, and one with a comparatively small alumni and fan base, have to bring to the table? If I'm the SEC, I'm saying "Good luck, Clemson...it's been real!"

This ^

One important lesson that the coots have never learned is that one's "affiliation" have no bearing on one's long-term success. The only thin that matters is your product which can only be a combination of your the blood, sweat, tears, and moral fortitude.

Is ANY team that has joined the SEC any better off? Nope. SC still a bottom dweller. Arky might have taken a step back from their SWC days. TAM is still the little sister. Mizzou? Still a no-show. Has Ped State or nebraska gone to glory in the Ped10? Really on VaTech has kinda had fruit from realignment.

They are getting paid to play. They are the fodder for the conference powers... to have a good season and still give up 60+ to Aweburnt when it matters.

If the goal was to make the most money, then yes, the SEC makes sense. But our goal is to win championshipS. Does the SEC provide a better opportunity. I think not really.

Just because something is strong now does not mean it will be strong in the future. The SEC was not overly powerful in the 80s and 90s. Miami alone won more in a 20-ish year span than the entire SEC. I mean the SEC went over a decade without a TITLE. Just because you are strong now does not mean you will be strong tomorrow.

Then, how about ACC basketball (because Judge will like this). The more teams that compete for the title can dilute the league - especially at the mid-upper tier. Why,because the elites will still get their piece but they have to share it more. Now, rather than being 1 in 9 or 1 in 12 (which was really 1 in 3 with a realistic shot), you have more "better" teams clustering around edging out challengers. It is now 1 in 5/6 with a stark difference between haves and have nots.

Arky took a step back from their SWC days because...

they are no long cheating to the point SMU would be embarrassed for them.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

It isn't about any Conference
