So, pilot light in my furnace won't stay lit.

Feb 26, 2016, 10:17 AM

After it cycles off, apparently the pilot light is going off, so next time the heat tries to kick in, it blows cold air.

Besides the obvious arson/insurance/sue-for-damages-and-live-the-rest-of-our-lives-in-luxury solution, anybody know anything I can try before I call in the pros?

Seriously though I have no idea. We have an electric furnace which I will gladly trade you. Every time it comes on that's 50 bucks. Kills our light bill.

Had same issue where I would relight it and it would stay lit for a little while than go out again. Finally after 4-5 cycles of this, mrs and mrs jr got tired of cold showers. It was a thermo coupling. I don't have that skill set but some can do it themselves. I don't so called roto rooter. $150

Thanks. I am also a little gun-shy when dealing with gas.***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

wait you have a pilot light in your furnace how old is it

Feb 26, 2016, 11:06 AM

they don't have pilot lights any more

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

get one o them long lighters like you light a grill with.

Feb 26, 2016, 11:44 AM

whenever the furnace kicks on, run down there and light it manually.

I'm thinking you might not get blowed up. Not sure. But it's a cheap solution.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Even better - Imma tape the trigger of one down and light it

Feb 26, 2016, 12:08 PM

then tape it in position. Instant pilot light.
