Transfer portal, NIL, and things...

May 2, 2022, 4:34 PM

In the blink of an eye, everything changes like crazy in this new landscape. Do I think it's wrong to pay players something? Of course not. Look at all these college coaches making money off the backs of these kids. They needed something.

It's just how they've gone about doing it that is stupid, and I don't agree with it. I am sure that some of you will disagree and say that tuition is enough. But let's face it, tuition is pennies on the dollar, and some of these kids will have nagging injuries for the rest of their lives, never having seen any money.

I disagree that nothing can be done. It can be. It should be. I think RememberTheDanny put it nicely in the post how this will all play out and it ain't good.

The transfer portal was another good intention that went sideways. Again, players should be able to leave but give them something to think about first; they're just kids at the end of the day.

We are hurting these kids. The money won't last, and hardly any will see the NFL. Having an education and contacts will generationally help African-American kids and their future families. What we have now will just hurt most in the long run.

I know I have some unpopular opinions in this post but this is truly what I believe.

Saying "look at what all these coaches make off the back of

these kids" Is plain stupid.........Everyone who has a job has a boss who probably makes more than them.
And these coaches get these players ready to make BIG money or go on to live their life with a Free education, facilities, healtcare etc..... for 4 or 5 years.....Players probably should be paid a little bit of money....but there should be a cap per NCAA......and ANY NIL money SHOULD be shared with the entire TEAM.....Not a single individual.....this whole NIL and Transfer portal is like our gov't right now......it just F's everything up.....and The NCAA is like the POTUS, NO HELP ...... and nothing good comes from it.
Rant over

I respect your opinion but it's not just the coaches...

who are making money off the backs of these kids. It's a free country, and you can have your opinion and think mine is stupid.

But do you really need to bring politics into it? Could you at least give that a rest?

Are you saying the money earned by a few should be spread

May 2, 2022, 5:39 PM [ in reply to Saying "look at what all these coaches make off the back of ]

equally amongst the team? Hmmmmm. Think long and sleep on that one before you implement that policy. ;)

Nothing you said is based in reality.

Why should any of this happen? Because of your own issues with the situation?

These "poor kids" live better than most of us for the years

May 2, 2022, 5:01 PM

they are in college......

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, because they're special

May 2, 2022, 9:52 PM

Do you have a problem acknowledging that?

How is covering the cost of tuition and tutoring “Pennies on the dollar” when a large majority of these athletes wouldn’t have been accepted to their respective university without athletics? Is a degree / the opportunity to earn a degree / education not the ultimate tool to pull one’s self from a bad situation?

The only factor in college athletics that makes me shake my head is the coaches salaries but outside of that , most college revenue is not turned into profit.

Thanks for your post. Pennies on the dollar are the revenue intake versus the college tuition costs.

Thank you

Yes, paying them would be A small percentage of revenue. I would prefer to go back to the system in place pre NIL but that won’t happen. In the meantime I think if College football wants to save itself it needs to do some soul searching to figure out what it wants to be. right now I’m finding myself less and less interested as the stories become less and less about football, teamwork, lessons learned, challenges overcome and more about something that reads like the plot of real housewives mixed with an editorial opinion show from any major news outlet.

It’s not just college football….Look what is happening at the high school level. Lots of shady things happening which makes that athlete feel entitled.
