We Women’s sport(s) selection...I hope these guys are smarter about this process...

Than they were when they announced the dropping of Men’s Track/Field, & across Country! Holy Cow! The optics of that announcement being sandwiched between IPTAY’s tripling of revenue since 2013 and the. The BOT approval of another $60 million plus stadium renovation was just really dumb and someone should be fired over it.
I think the optics of adding high $ sports that only wealthy white women participate in such as Equestrian, LAX, or Field Hockey would be super foolish and bad taste at least were the AD to go in that direction. Besides the optics, costs associated with these sports would be way more astronomical than alternative choices.
Those are supposedly 3 of the 6 sports being considered. I have heard that Triathalon, Women's Wrestling, and probably Beach VolleyBall are the others but I’m not sure....
I believe Women’s Wrestling should be strongly considered due to the fast rising popularity of the sport, the demographics that it pulls from, the low cost of the sport, no necessity of having to build a brand new over-budget facility (ahem...Softball) and the natural male counterpart that could eventually be a good add for the Future.
It will be interesting to see if they actually use their heads this time but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Really, the primary drivers of which sport(s) to add will be: The number of athletes that can be added to balance the Title IX ledger; and The start-up and budget costs. LAX does not need its own field (initially, at least) - so costs can be mitigated - and, a TEAM SPORT adds many more athletes than an individual sport. (Think rowing vs. golf!)
And demographics may be considered in the discussion, but not current, but future, demographics. They'll be asking, what is the future of this sport (5, 10, 20 years out.)

fastest growing sport in high schools in the southeast, be it men or women's. Would add a good number, and we have facilities that could be used. I would not add a sport that isn't hardly played at all in southeast high schools.. aka women's wrestling. And Clemson already has an equestrian club team, which should be sufficient for that sport.

Are we looking to add an NCAA sport or an “emerging sport”

Only 1 D1 school has Women’s wrestling. Presbyterian.
That would be adding simply for the numbers. Seems like the most disrespectful add IMO. Making it obvious it’s strictly for the scholarships and not about promoting women’s sport at Clemson

At one time in late 70's or the 80's, Tigers had a very competitive women's field hockey team. It was dropped with very little reason given. Not sure on the time frame but we also had a very good wrestling program for guys back then. Things have changed a great deal since the days many of us were on campus. But the planned men's track & field cessation and reinstatement is a "black eye" for the Clemson Athletic Department.

Right now, there are 13 more men’s scholarships than women’s (assuming all available are used). There are no scholarships for women’s wrestling so scratch that one. Ice hockey (18), Equestrian (15), swimming (14), LAX (12), gymnastics (12), rugby (12), and field hockey (12) have the most scholarships among the sports we don’t already have. I doubt ice hockey (no rink), equestrian (very expensive given price to feed/maintain the horses); swimming (no pool, seemingly no desire to revisit it), rugby (no other ACC schools offer it), gymnastics (no facilities available).
Beach volleyball gets 0 scholarships (b/c we have an indoor team) so it doesn’t help title IX. Triathlon is only 6.5 scholarships.
That really leaves you with field hockey and lacrosse.

You will receive Olympics grants to help with equestrian. We have a great agriculture department that can provide Hay & share equipment. Really transportation would be your biggest expense. You won’t have to build a venue & upkeep a field of play in the same way as other sports. You could add equine majors to help with costs & growth.

And disappointed.
It’s the obvious choice. Of the sports being considered, it’s the one that we should’ve had long ago but for some reason never have. Most other ACC schools already have women’s lacrosse. It’s popular and growing quickly in popularity. We already have a venue (Riggs Field). It offers 12 scholarships. And it attracts the type of student-athlete Clemson desires (smart, generally middle-upper class, from suburban areas).

“Clemson desires smart, generally middle-upper class from suburban areas”?
Would you care to elaborate how and where you acquired this insight into what Clemson desires?

from the suburbs more than smart, lower income students from urban areas.
From Clemson.edu
Clemson Tigers come from a variety of backgrounds. We are looking for students who bring varied experiences, knowledge and talents to Clemson. For this reason, diversity, legacy status and first-generation status are considered when reviewing applications. We understand that not everyone has the same opportunities. When reviewing applications, your coursework, activities and curriculum are examined in the context of what is offered in your high school.

Diversity is a good thing, and colleges these days tout it.
But with that said, an overwhelming majority of students at Clemson grew up in at least a middle class home, are from a suburban area, and are intelligent.
I get the sense that my statement bothered you. If so, why?

Clemson desires good smart kids from all walks of life.
One statement is true. The other is not. One statement insults Clemson and it’s selection process. The other does not.

It’s not insulting to Clemson to acknowledge that Clemson has an ideal student.

It’s not that a student from an urban area, or a rural area, or a lower income home is bad. Not at all. But if Clemson has its preference, with all else equal, Clemson will go with its ideal candidate.

It is insulting, and it’s not a nuance. That theme seems to always carry through your substantial body of work here on Tigernet.
Clemson doesn’t not seek out student athletes based on whether they live in suburbs or their class status. That’s simply false. As usual when confronted with facts, instead of simply admitting you’re wrong and moving on you double and triple down on things that simply aren’t true.
There are plenty of folks who run to your defense as a Clemson supporter; one in particular who is always Johnny on the spot, but I rarely see you support Clemson. I see you supporting one man who temporarily holds a position while discarding, insulting, demeaning everything else Clemson that is in your path.
One of the qualities that was further imparted on me at Clemson was humility. Clemson doesn’t appear to have that effect on you.

Was talking to Mrs Noodle about this. We don’t think the AD will allow lacrosse to be played on Riggs. It would be like using Death Valley...not going to happen.
Since they’ve said they will add “one or more” women’s sports, we think they may add women’s and men’s lax and then add field hockey.
Our reasoning is that all of those could share one facility so costs would be somewhat mitigated.
Just a thought.
