Agree LBB . We will have some great crowds this season. I think all the recent success and the recruiting excitement just adds to the need for people to see the Oculus' progress and to cheer on the Tigers from the stands.

Are total attendance records out of reach?

Can we set a total attendance record now with fewer hill tickets allowed and the smaller capacity with the west endzone renovations?

Doesn't look like it. The record was set in 1987 when we played 8 home games. We would have to average 86,076 per game to top that, which is just short of the all time Memorial Stadium Record of 86,092 vs FSU in 1999. Don't think we can get there with the new hill limits. http://www.tigernet.com/update/player/Clemson-football-sets-attendance-record-14896

I'm not sure how many hill tickets they sell currently, but I believe it's less than in the past due to egress restrictions or something. I do know that they don't count as many hill tickets as they used to when calculating the total capacity.
From clemsontigers.com: Previously, capacity was listed as 81,473. When we listed that number in previous years, we counted 6,000 people on the hill. Our new capacities (2005 and 2006) count just 4,000 people on the hill and that accounts for the fact that our new capacity in 2006 is lower than what it had been previously. http://www.clemsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=28500&ATCLID=205504990

I do not think we can set a all time attendance record

due to seating limits with the addition to the west zone, I believe we lost a good number of seats to the new boxes. We may be able to set some type of total season attendance or number of sold out games in a single season records though. Sounds like a question someone needs to ask Tim Burette.

They also used to set up temporary bleachers behind the hill which they can't do anymore

And were extremely lackadaisical about people coming in through the student gate in the east end back in the day. Although it couldnt be officially stated, the actual record for number of people in the stadium is well over 86,000. I remember games against FSU and USC where after the first quarter virtually anyone could come in through the east gate whether they had a ticket or not. The 99 FSU game realistic attendence by halftime was probably about 95,000. Same with USC in 2000. It actually was a bit of a saftey problem in the student section and the hill.

I wonder if anyone remembers this... for the 88 SC game, we had temporary bleachers along the old walkway in front of the west stands and then 4 sets of bleachers on both sidelines at around each 25 yard line. These were on the ground behind the bench pressed up against the base of the main stands. Then, as mentioned above, were bleachers squeezed in behind the hill and in front of the scoreboard.
