Are students these days even buying TAPS?

Apr 19, 2022, 10:51 AM

With all the social media and dependence on virtual stuff rather than printed media, is anyone even buying TAPS anymore? When I started in 87, TAPS was as big as it was in the 70s, in terms of number of pages, etc, and most everyone bought one, seems like. Then around 1989 or so, they had some printing issues or something, and we got two in one year or something like that, both of which were much slimmer because I guess people realized they didn't really care anymore? I don't know if TAPS ever recovered from that - maybe it did.

Are the students in the internet/social media age even buying them or interested in them anymore?

I may be mistaken, but...

I'm pretty sure Clemson stopped publishing TAPS at the end of the 2017 or 2018 school year largely due to a significant decline in interest/sales.

I didn't realize that but you are right looks like 2018 was the last year it was published and then it was disbanded. I got the 2005 and 2006 issues when I was getting my Masters and wouldn't trade them for anything. Sad.

You are correct.

It just wasn't important as a student. Now I wish I had.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

I graduated in '89 and had to wait to get my last TAPS because they wanted to make a special 100 years anniversary edition. Also have my name on the sidewalk close to Calhoun mansion. They put names on bricks still, but this is the old style with the embossed concrete.

I am coming up on my 50th college reunion and as time goes by, I look at the yearbook more and more. When I hear someone has died or has a child or grandchild getting married or moving into the area, we will get our yearbooks out and try to remember the person.
