Are fans angry at Brad Brownell?

I mean to ask, beyond the performance concerns, do folks think he deserves a kick in the can on the way out the door if that is his fate?
If so, curious to hear your thoughts.
I think he's done some good things and has represented the Clemson brand very well.

Sorry, I can’t make sense of this reply.
I am a fan and I hate it when the Tigers lose in any sport. I am not angry at CBB or his staff. I am not angry with Tiger players who had great shots but missed them tonight.
I am angry with so called fans who apparently believe that the Clemson University sports programs owe them something..like Clemson must be competitive with UGA, BAMA in football and must be able to reach the NCAA tournament every year or else fire the coaching staff. Sorry, I just try and enjoy college athletics especially Clemson sports.
Finally, I try to enjoy the successes of Clemson athletes and their stories/successes.

As Clemson fans I think we all try to enjoy when our Tigers play. We may have a much greater number of fans that have some sense of entitlement, or have been spoiled by recent success, with regards to football than we do for basketball.
Brownell had been the coach for 12 or 13 seasons, and it's been excuse after excuse as to why we have not consistently made the Big Dance. He could not build off of the momentum of the Sweet 16 run, and has allowed the excitement that was there for this team fade away.
Losses to Loyola and U of SC could be explained away (or tried to be) because they were early in the season. A loss to a 3-23 team knowing that a strong finish is a must is pretty tough to take. That's not being an unrealistic fan.
What can we say Brownell's legacy will be with regards to how his teams played?

A coaches #1 job is to win, not just graduate players. It's why they get fired, resign, let go. I am not sure he has earned any praises in this, his 214th year of coaching mediocrity. In fact I'll say he straight up is simply "cashing it in" every time he puts on a Tiger paw. Dude obviously has max con skills to the point he could probably sell water to a drowning man. Tiger players deserve better than Brownell. And if fans are angry at the millions wasted on Bradley let them be. They have as much right as anyone still defending this mess of a coach on his performance.

I think he is a genuinely good man. I think he has done good things with the program. It’s not his fault. He is simply not the man for the job. It’s not his fault that he’s in over his head at this level of competition. Which is sad, especially considering the ACC has been watered down by expansion and this is arguably the worst ACC, top to bottom, in history. And frankly has been grossly under performing as a conference for several years.
When is the last time North Carolina and Duke were both unranked this late in the season?
But I am getting increasingly irritated and PO’d at the administration for allowing this farce to continue!
Clemson historically does not pull the trigger quickly on coaches. I think most schools pull the trigger too quickly, but we wait too long. We waited too long with Jack Leggett, we waited way too long with Tommy Bowden, we waited too long with Larry Shyatt, probably waited two years too long with Monte, and Brad Brownell should’ve been fired years ago!
If we lose one or two more regular season games and go one and done in the ACC tournament, people are going to be pissed if he is not fired.
Honestly, the man should resign! If he were truly the man people say he would resign. He should at the very least take a 50% pay cut and beg for one more year to right the ship and waive his buyout. If he were truly ethical, that’s what he would do! But he won’t, because he’s a grifter stealing from Clemson!

Angry? No. Irritated with him? Yes. I don't think we should jump him in an alley or get drop kicked out the door. I think he should quietly walk out the door at this point. I said before the season, it was NCAA tournament or bust for me to even just consider another year with him around and that's pretty much already been written in writing we ain't going now. Like others have said, the ACC isn't as ridiculously dominant and flooded with tournament teams as it used to be and we are still finding a way to keep ourselves from taking advantage of it. And the fact we are being written off for the Tournament at this point is stemming from a loss to the worst team in the ACC that was 3-23. That scenario shouldn't happen with a "veteran" coach in his 13th year with the program. The whole thing is just so frustrating and pure insanity at this point. Glad Softball and Baseball are here to distract all us fans from the routine crapshow of Clemson Basketball.

You don't know Clemson basketball if you think BB is the worst coach ever. Only 10 of our 22 coaches have had winning records. Tates Locke and Press Maravich were not among those 10.

I think he’s a good guy and represents Clemson well but there’s something wrong when his team does well then collapses against weaker competition. Tommy Bowden used to lose to teams he shouldn’t have lost to and lost his job. Not every year is necessarily a tournament year but when we have a good team, let’s see some consistency.

Angry, no. Just tired of accepting that this is as good as it gets, especially in a year like this in the ACC.
The man has had 13 seasons to show consistent improvement. He has not done that. I don't know how anyone would think years 14, 15 or 16 would be any different than the last 12+.
I'm not in the least bit angry with Brownell, but hope we soon have a young dynamic new coach that can sell Clemson better and be much more consistent.

I don’t blame Brownell for coaching here this long. DRad gave terrible extensions and the BOT kept approving them without applying pressure. 5% of the blame goes to WCCP for silencing criticism and running interference for years against those who could see clearly this program was going nowhere under Brownell

I'm more irritated at the Clemson Athletic department that has retained him for this long. And, will have to give him more severance $$$ when he is finally excused.
But Brownell, nah...the world is a fickle mistress and if someone wants to pay you big bucks for a subpar job performance, I can't be mad at him for taking advantage of that.

But clearly not good enough. He is a decent mid major coach. Plays mid major basketball. Recruits mid major talent (sometimes finds a gem - but not enough to sustain). while players get better as they get experience - they don’t develop as a team. He relies on 3 s like a mid major - and seldom has a true inside game. Big boy basketball is built inside then out. He could not develop inside guys because he never tried to push inside and develop, so any height would leave. He puts players in wrong spots. Who in the world puts Amir Sims at the 5 or 4? Brad did. Sims could have been amazing 3 and been pro ready if he got more time developing his ball skills, shooting. Nope, Brad put him in the middle. Who can recall the last powerful rebounder - shot blocker we had under Brad? Who defended the rim like a Larry Nance?
He tried, he was not able to evolve away from mid major ball. Decent enough guy. Did not get in trouble. Unfortunately, there was just enough success finishing in the middle of the ACC to make some people think he would finally evolve. When it did not happen, it sucked the oxygen out of the room, the energy out of the fans, the fun out of the general student body. All still remain Clemson Basketball supporters (unlike what Brads defenders think). They will come back when excitement is back in LJ.
So - to answer your question - for me - not mad.. Disappointed in both what could have been and why this level of success against a bad ACC has been rewarded with new contracts along the way. What might have been? We won’t know. We can only hope that a change is made - it is past time to move on.
