Are basketball games really won or lost on last second shots

Mar 10, 2022, 5:29 PM

or is it that in games like that neither team was capable of building a lead and sustaining it. Therefore the last lucky shot wins? While our game and the BC games come to mind there are many that are won by last second shots. Aren’t those just luck of the draw as opposed to the best team winning?
It is sort of like playing the card game war. There is no strategy just luck of the draw.
I like definitive answers I guess.

A lot of them are won or lost at the free throw line. Just sayin….

No more so than football games because of a last second.....

missed play. Games are typically lost because of several mistakes made during the course of a game. You shouldn't have to have a last-second shot/play to win a game.

Was it luck that we won the 2016 Natty with 1 sec left on the clock
or was it strategy and determination and talent that won it? you figure
it out. Luck is in horse shoes.

If you had ever played basketball you would know that plans change on the fly. Last few second situations can go right or wrong depending on how the offense moves and if the defense guesses right. The answer to your question is yes and sometimes it is a great play, sometimes a bust and sometimes just pure luck a shot goes in.

No, basketball games are won by who has the most points on the scoreboard when the clock says 00:00.Doesn't matter if it is a last second buzzer beater ,or erasing a 23 point deficit ( Boston college at Clemson),or outscoring your opponent on a 24-6( at Ga.Tech) run to open the game, if your team has one more point, you win, and I go home.
Clemson went home.
