Anyone here complaining about “freedom “

Jul 22, 2021, 9:43 PM

in the land of the free around when there was a military draft and a war going on? And if not, would you have allowed the government to take away your freedom? Or would you have been willing to do something you wouldn’t normally choose to do for the good of mankind? I know Joe21 made decisions that put him at far greater risk than rolling up his sleeve for a new vaccine and at age 99 was among the first in line for this “unproven, unapproved, and dangerous Covid-19 shot”.

I doubt many are not getting the vaccine because of worry about the vaccine. Most are not getting it now because biden set it as an objective to get to 70%. Like Kamala and most Democrats said last year, I just won’t trust something the opposing party says is safe

I don't know how you could possibly know the motivation for "most" people. I suspect some don't get it because they 1) don't trust it, 2) aren't in a high risk category, or 3) have had Covid and have natural immunity. I have a hard time beliving "most" people, who otherwise think the vaccine would benefit them, are choosing to put themselves at risk just to make Biden look bad. He doesn't need anyone's help with that.

clover65 - you are 100% on target. congratulations. You get it.

cootonscout - give it a rest? that's pathetic and weak. don't get up off the couch, we'll take care of it.

tigersense - not specious at all, many folks that profess such reverence for the sacrifices of military service can't take the simple step of getting vaccinated for the benefit of their local community and the entire USA. Shameful.

outlaw1081 - You say "Most are not getting it now because biden set it as an objective to get to 70%". I rest my case. I could not have said it better. Thank you for illustrating and confirming the shallow pettiness inherent in "most" of the anti vax crowd.

Sleep well gentlemen. Those of us that are getting vaccinated will operate the country while ya'll can stay on the couch, take a rest, stay home, work on the meaning of specious, watch fox, disregard others, become more self absorbed and obstruct anything joe attempts. Way to grab life by the horns.

That is such a stupid ill informed post. Old people should get the vaccine. Young people should not. Because this is not a pandemic like we have had in the past. This is not a virus that kills anyone and everyone. The data after 18 months is crystal clear. If you are old. Get the vaccine. If you are fat and have diabetes get the vaccine. Otherwise, you don’t need it. If you’re not old or obese and diabetic you have a minuscule chance of dying from Covid. It’s called statistics!

is old, overweight, or has at least one chronic medical condition. Many have all three of these.

What nobody seems to be talking about is how ridiculous it is that so many people today are unhealthy. This pandemic could be used as a way to educate people and help them lose weight and improve their health. This pandemic has exposed the ill effects of the crappy food, high stress, and sedentary lifestyles that have dominated our society for decades. It’s sad.

In the meantime, adults should get the freaking vaccine unless they have a really really good reason not to. Hint: almost all of the reasons people give aren’t good reasons.

there are special incentives to get the vaccine and be rewarded with free Krispy Kreme donuts for a year…and everyone thinks that is wonderful.

Pretty telling that they sent the Surgeon General to the podium last week to lecture us about vaccine information…but he never says a word about the benefits of just living a healthier lifestyle.
One of the many reasons why we shouldn’t trust any of it.

Jul 23, 2021, 11:08 AM [ in reply to Re: Anyone here complaining about “freedom “ ]

The problem with your logic is that while we wait, the virus continues to change, spinning out new variants that target younger demographics and different classes. The higher the vax rate, the fewer targets that remain available to infect. Thus lowering the incidence of variants.

Allowing the virus to roam unchecked will eventually result in a variant that can achieve full and real pandemic status and wipe out millions. And then we can truly realize in practice that scene from Search for The Holy Grail and fill up wagons to the shout Bring Out Your Dead!

Those of us old enough to remember the polio scare know that it mostly affected the young. So by your logic older populations needn’t have worried about immunization. But we all did it protect others. I’m today’s world it’s worry only about yourselves. Welcome to the new Dark Ages.

So what do you think about....

Jul 24, 2021, 10:21 AM

how the mRNA virus has been shown to likely cross the blood brain barrier? Or does that not factor into your evaluation of the risk factors?

Do you think that long-term safety trials are a dumb waste of time? If not... then how does the fact the vaccine is still under emergency use authorization factor into your risk evaluation?

How does the fact that the recovery rate for healthy people under 60 from covid (with no vaccine) is over 99% factor into your risk evaluation?

I didn't grow up in a generation where we thought all this "freedom" stuff was just handed to us, and we didn't need to do anything to repay any of that with any kind of personal sacrifice. Sure does seem to be the prevalent opinion now, though. I suspect that if Uncle Sam reinstituted the draft today, there would be wholesale draft dodging, not to mention lawsuits out the wahzoo about how the guvmint don't have the "right" to do it.

Jul 23, 2021, 1:40 PM

wouldn’t want to answer the question. When a military/war topic comes up, we see the usual “thanks for your service” platitude because they think they’re supposed to say it and they don’t want to face the fact that since WW2, no one has sacrificed “for the country” (with the POSSIBLE exception of in Afghanistan and then it was just those there early on). Otherwise, these people are “serving” defense contractors and their shareholders. That’s it.

Jul 23, 2021, 2:25 PM

Maybe I understand your take? It has merit, but all you post is not factual. You are speaking as to the politics?

After WW11 many have been drafted and many have joined (for various reasons).
Leaving your family is a sacrifice few will choose to make.
2.2 Million kids were drafted for VN.
1.5 million kids were drafted for Korea.
Many did not return home or came home mangled. Go away for a couple years and marriages fall apart, girl friends move on. Peers move up the ladder while you are gone and you come back with no job.
Politics be ######, that is real individual sacrifice that effects one all their life.

I too find it funny when folks say “thanks for your service”, but they mean well.

Love you brother - and when I didn’t get drafted in ‘71 when

Jul 24, 2021, 9:38 AM

I turned 18, I enlisted. It was my decision - and choice.

However, I do remember seeing nightly news footage of hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people cramming the Mall in Washington, college campuses, city squares and courthouse steps protesting the war. I knew a few who ‘moved’ to Canada, Europe, etc., too. Not to mention, you could conscientiously object to serving in combat.

To get the vaccine is a personal choice.

Besides, if you’ve gotten it, why do you care if others don’t?

I agree, don’t understand why people are so concerned about others deciding not get vaccinated.
Vaccinated people can still get the virus from a vaccinated or non vaccinated person . I have not heard a logical reason yet .

to get the shot and I saw on the news yesterday where a kid less than 10 years old died from it in Georgia. It would also be nice if we quit hearing about case numbers skyrocketing and wondering about schools and sports venues being shut down or scaled back again...... besides that I'm all good.

At least the good news is that almost all of the recent deaths and hospitalizations are the unvaccinated (where it belongs at this point in time).

Just tired of the way this entire thing has altered daily life - we would never have had all these "stimulus packages" that make people stay home instead of getting jobs that businesses need to fill to stay open, kids would not have to be subjected to remote learning, and we would have had full stadiums(sp) last Fall - which of those were you in favor of... and ready to experience again.

You sound pretty hysterical as you believe that the

Jul 24, 2021, 10:07 AM

reason that life is screwed up right now is due to people who resist the insanity.... instead of those who have gone along with it.

The people who made the restrictions did so with no justification.... but they got away with it because the media was compliant.

The virus is not dangerous to the vast majority of people. Children have virtually ZERO risk. The vaccine has undergone no long-term or medium term safety trials. More children have been killed by the vaccine than by covid in at least a handful of countries already. People with the vaccine are still spreading covid.

You may believe that the vaccine is a good choice for you... and because Im not hysterical I respect that decision.... but I have decided that the vaccine is more dangerous to my family than covid.... and for the last year and a half that decision has benefitted my family, including my mother.... who is also healthy, unmasked and "exposed" to the real word.
