Anybody remember the pipe bomb in the amphitheater in 1986

My daughter is a current freshman, and was going to watch a movie in the amphitheater. It flashed me back to my own freshman year 31 years ago. Thankfully, no pipe bombs last night!

I was there in school, but was not at the event. In 84 they showed the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I had never seen it and it was a blast to see it in the amphitheater. The next year in 85 they showed Polyester, a scratch and sniff movie which was awesome in a college setting like that as well.

a cooler of beer from Calhoun Courts…promptly turned around and lugged it back. There was a tree that had a chunk missing from the pipe bomb, lucky no one was killed. Tree is gone now.

I was there. Freshman year. I always thought it was a homemade cannon that went wrong. I was on the top row at the amphitheater and they also carried a girl out with an injury to her leg/ankle. I have never watched the Rocky Horror picture show maybe because of that evening.

I was a freshman fall of 84 and graduated summer of 88. I don’t remember this. I was probably drunk in Tiger Town.

Seems like the noise cannon thing is accurate. It turned into something worse went it malfunctioned. Don’t think the guy was attempting anything destructive. I’ve never watched Rocky Horror either. That was my one and only attempt.

They used to play it at midnight sometimes at the Astro. That’s where I saw it while at Clemson.
