Anybody done one of the NASCAR driving experience events?

Mar 3, 2021, 9:42 AM

Thinking about doing the Rusty Wallace one at Darlington on March 13th - they advertise 60% off for the laps, but then there are a bunch add-ons like insurance, ride along with pro, better car, etc.

Coworker gave it to her husband for his birthday

One I think it was at Charlotte. They did a package and she got to drive too. I think she had more fun than he did. He has a corvette that he road races so I don't think the speed was as big a thrill.

She said you need A LOT of patience. It was hurry up and wait all day.

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”
Isaac Asimov

I know folks that have.

General consensus is it's a box checker event. Yep, did that...it was cool. Don't care about doing it again type thing.

Put three cars out at one time.

.

Check out the BMW M School or one of their charity events...

Mar 3, 2021, 12:33 PM

M School is M school and the charity events let you drive about 6 different events over the course of a day. One of the events is always a lap on the big track in an M car (M5 my first time and M3 the second)

Also a short wet oval course with no traction control, "off-road" experience, hot laps in 335's and a couple of other events. At the end of the day the instructors take people out for full on laps in M5s. There is a lot of drifting.

Really fun.

I've done the ride along at Darlington. I'm 6'4" so I was kinda crammed into the seat. G-forces in the curve were so strong, I eventually quit fighting to hold my head up and just rested it against the roof rail. My wife did it too and loved it but she's much shorter.

Did it twice. 30 laps at Disney Orlando track - 30 laps in

Vegas.

Both mile and a half tracks . . . would have preferred one to be a different track length.

Richard Petty deal both times.

A ridiculous adrenaline rush.

There is a pace setting car in front of you - you have to follow 2 to 4 car lengths - if you stay in that window of following, the pace guy keeps picking up speed.

The force you go into those curves at is beyond crazy - you swear there is no way the car isn't just going to bust loose and go centrifugal force slam you into the outer fence.

144 mph - by yourself - following another race car . . . . doesn't get much more real than that. What other sport can you get that close to simulating what is going on ? MLB - what - Randy Johnson burning 30 heaters at you ? The bat wouldn't even leave your shoulder by the time it was in the catcher's glove. NFL - dead after first tackle. NBA - what ? Never heard of it.

Absolutely would do again - either Bristol or Charlotte or Daytona or Talledaga . . . only because have already done the mile and a half.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.
