Any y'all thought about getting a second remote job?

Lemme just ask the question, why bust your ### for somebody else and get a 5% raise when you can do the bare minimum at 2 jobs for double the salary and get a 3% at both (or at least one)

It’s hard to do my job remotely cause I’d need a really long turd shovel.

But I’m sure that some folks are scamming that system already. Which, as is always the case, creates an issue for the honest workers who would like to remain remote. And I’m sure companies will do what they always do, hide behind the one bad example and kill flies with shotguns. Everybody suffers due to one person in admin not actually doing their job and vetting appropriately.

Man, this hits close to home. And it's exactly what

I'm doing right now. Your numbers even sound the same as mine when I got promoted last year. Went from a senior role to a "management" role and got a VERY small bump for the pleasure of overseeing the largest team in the department.
I'm putting in the usual 45-50 hours at my day job. But I'm double-dipping for sure. If I get a free minute in the day, best believe that 8-15 of those hours are going towards billable contract work for a couple of consulting clients I have on the side.
The benefit is two fold. 1) It forces me to prioritize day job tasks for "the man" so that I'm only focusing on business-critical activities and not all the minutiae that comes from a corporate environment (i.e. I don't do impromptu meetings/calls (no, I do not "have a minute", as my day is meticulously planned), I'm not doing other peoples jobs, I don't try to micromanage when I get bored). I focus only what's needed to produce revenue. 2) I get extra income doing stuff I like without having to work late nights.
I gets pretty awkward when I share my screen and I have a random proposal, strategy or business architecture document pulled up for a client. But what are they gonna do, LOL. I'm replaceable --- but my company is RISK AVERSE in all regards, specifically in regards to terminating employees who have scored 5/5 on their past 3 performance reviews. Hard to make a case against me unless I spit in the CEOs face or something.
Bless, they never even raised any concerns when I was showing up drunk every day.

I double dipped for 2 years, this was around 2003-2004.....

I was managing a team of 15-20 inside sales reps and we all worked from home. I'd get started early in the morning to get those folks lined up and ready to go, say around 6am. Had a lot of free time the rest of the day unless I needed to address an issue, etc. Then a friend told me about a "business development" remote job that was west coast only. So around noon I started working that job too. And you can make calls to Calif until 8pm (5pm PST).
I was still available of course if any of my reps needed help with something. But basically, both companies were getting their 8 hours. Sometimes the west coast job dragged into 9pm. So it was a long azzz day... maybe 15-16 hours. Man, I was making bank working two jobs... but I was wore slap out at the end of the day. Couldn't do that forever. I was kinda glad when the west coast job ended.

when you're looking at self-employment. I haven't found anyone doing hiring for remote jobs that are in my current field unless you're basically a contractor, which is essentially the same as self-employed.

time job with benefits, and the "second job" was as a 1099 contractor.
And I checked my tax returns for those years, it was only 15 months, not 2 years. I guess it just felt like 2 years, working that many hours a day. I got the years wrong too, it was 2006-2008.
